Hey folks,

Last Thursday I had a car stolen right out of the parking lot where I work. Thankfully my Mustang was at home awaiting a tune and I drove my 84 El Camino SS. I'm not saying it's okay or that I'm glad it was the Camino, but from a value point of view, it is just better. Anyway, the El Camino was a beautiful example of what the late model Caminos could be and it breaks my heart to say that it was recovered, missing its wheels, most of the interior, and EVERYTHING forward of the firewall except the suspension.

This prompted me to look into securing my Mustang, especially now that it is on its way to becoming a show car and I couldn't deal with the thought of losing it. I called up LoJack today and am having a Early Response system installed in it. I think it will help me sleep a bit easier, but I know that the car won't ever be 100% safe.

I just wanted to see what everyone else is doing as far as alarms are concerned. I think I made a smart decision though, anyone else have LoJack?

LoJack was probably a smart move. I want to get that installed in mine, but I've just got too much $$ tied up in other things right now. Its definately on the list though. How much did you pay, if you don't mind me asking? 700-800 bucks?

Came in at about $1100 when all was said and done. That includes a free installation at your office or at your home, and the Early Response system, where they call your home, cell, or work phone, pager, etc. to let you know when your car is being moved without your knowing.

Pretty cool if you ask me, and well worth it.

I don't know if you remember but my 05 was stolen by a Ford Employee at one of the dealerships here in Southern California. It was recovered by the local sheriff when the guy that stole it was doing 85+ in a 55 mph zone at 2 in the morning. The dealership acted like total ***holes and I had to get the Better Business Bureau involved so the dealership would give me some type of warranty since the guy put over 60 miles on my car. He got fired and the local judge gave him probation for 6 months. THATS IT!!!!!! The prosecuting attorney was so pissed and believe me so was I.

I use a Club on the steering wheel. Yes they can be circumvented, but not instantly and it may make the theif look at the next car over as an easier mark..

Sorry to hear of your loss.. The 70's and 80's GM steering columns are plastic and easy to punch. You simply knock a hole in them and disconnect the rod to the ignition switch - the column is now unlocked and you are gone..
