Security for our stangs.

Lowjack - best security for the price
Car alarms - help to some extent
Kill switches - can get around
VIN etching - can get around
Club/Steering wheel locks - waste of money, easy to break

Has anyone tried one of these on any of their cars?

I have the anti-theft package myself. I am not as much worried about someone stealing it as I am kids keying it or trying the door handles, etc. The kids in the neighborhood have blown fireworks up by our house twice. And my wife came home one day to two kids standing behind the Stang took off running. Sorry to hijack your thread. But could someone also iterate on what would be a system to go off to get someone away from my car.

It's a shame that the south african anti car jacking systems wouldn't be allowed over here - electrified body panels & door handles or side mounted flame thrower anyone?

i don't think they are trying to protect their /cars/ over there though

I would suggest a car alarm that comes with a pager that works up to half a mile. This way, even if you're in a loud restaurant, you're pager will go off when your car alarm does and you can bash some faces in.

Here are some other things to consider if you don't anyone to potentially steal or break-in to your Stang.
1. Keep it clean or clear of anything of value. If it can be seen from outside, then it can attract would-be thieves.
---- a. Do not leave electronic equipment out in the open
------ 1) Always remove your radar detector, if you have one, from the windshield and store it in the glove box.
------ 2) Do not leave cell phones, CD players, CB radios, laptop computers, PDAs, palm tops, cameras, etc. out in the open.
------ 3) Do not leave tools or power tools out in the open.
---- b. Do not leave bags, backpacks, suitcases, etc. in the open.
---- c. Do not leave important papers, documents, checkbooks or boxes in the open.
---- d. Keep loose change or paper money in the center console compartment.
---- e. Do not leave other accessories or clothing, such as, sunglasses, expensive clothing, and jewelry out in the open.
2. Do not tell the world that you have expensive equipment. Some people seem to think that they are cool, having stickers or decals advertising various high performance parts or custom audio equipment.
That just makes your car the perfect target with the message "STEAL ME" written all over it.

3. This is hard to do, but try not to make too any outrageous cosmetic changes (i.e. body kits, spoilers, rims, custom paint, color decals), that can attract negative attention.

4. If you have an expensive audio system, never blast it in your local neighborhood because the thieves are always listening. Trust me, it happened to my brother who, at the same time, had decals pasted all over his vehicle like a NASCAR car advertising his audio equipment.
One day, we came back from a long weekend and his stereo and speakers we're all gone.
These are just my 2 cents on some things that I thought would be useful.

I'm looking into getting a Viper 5000 installed. Alarm system with a two way pager. The Ravelco is gonna wait for the GT500

I'm gonna suggest that this list may not be quite accurate (depending on where you are). Each of these things, by itself, will likely not deter too make car thieves. But, on the other hand, using several of these devices together MAY deter most would-be car thieves. Why? Because, from what I've read, car theft has an element of opportunity associated with it. The thief sees the car, cases the car and the area, determines the relative difficulty in stealing it, and proceeds. If the thief determines that the car has a high level of difficulty they may go look elsewhere to find a similar vehicle thats not quite as difficult.

Most car thieves want to be in and out quickly. The more systems they have to bypass the more time is needed to get the job done. Time, in this case, is NOT their friend. If the thief shows up with a tow truck little is likely gonna stop them. The alarm may sound but how many people really pay attention to car alarms anymore?

Now if the car thief is just a kid with a crowbar few things, short of a shotgun, BIG dog, or witness with a cell phone, is probably gonna slow them down from smashing a window and ripping off something from inside the car.
