Here's the skinny:

I am a die hard Mustang lover all the way to China. Have been for as long as I can remember.

I am looking to buy a new car so I picked a few to drive including a new Mustang GT.

The car I drove had no low end grunt what so ever. It felt like there was less power in that car than there is in my stocker 88 coupe 5.0. Everytime I clutched in, the shifter would vibrate heavily. Also, there was a wierd clunking in the rearend. This car only had 43km (43...not 43000). What gives? Was this car a lemon or are they all like this?

I was really dissapointed with the car, but I'm not writing it off just yet. What do you guys that own them feel are their strong/weak points?

Thanks.

If you check out the sticky thread at the top of the forum made by Bigcat you'll see a lot of the problems that have been addressed with the S197. Theres been a bunch of tranny problems and the rear end clunking has been noted. These cars are amazing, so much fun that car probably had the 3.55 gears you can get a different set 3.73's from the factory all you need to do is order it that way. Also a CAI and a tune wakes these cars up to a total new level its amazing how far a little bit of money goes with a S197. I bought my car back in 05 and i havnt looked back since :nice:

i suggest driving another car. the low end torque problem is fords famous drive by wire system. there is no cable to open the throttle, its all done electronically. ford programmed the throttle to be lazy in the lower RPMS to save on wear and tear--for warranty concerns of course. i dont know about the shifter rattle. could be isolated to that car only. if it is at a dealership, have them address all those issues before you agree to buy it.

Consider this - For the money, the Mustang GT is a great bargain!!!

Sure, we all have upgraded our tunes, CAI, rear gears, exhausts, suspension, etc., but dollar for dollar, this car has potential...

If you like the body style, then buy one...

If not, then look at another car!!! (My 0.02 cents)
