selling the SRT-4 and considering a foxbody

Straight to the point...after I sell the SRT-4, I would like to get a Foxbody mustang and build the engine and drivetrain to run mid to high 11's. With $5,000 to spend right off the bat, what option do I have? this is something that my father and i could tear the engine apart and build it to run strip/street.

sure I can almost drive a notch into the 12's stock, with a bunch of free mods and tweaks here and there. 11's are easy. What do you want to know specifically?

low 14's if your talking healthy 5 speed with a descent driver.

Honestly focus on finding a clean notch or hatch stick, you'll be paying at least 4 g's (my area) depending on where you live. then start with some of strypes ideas. 11's will be easy if you meant 5 grand without counting buying the car. damn thats a nice 331/347 build in a stock block and you'll easily blast to 11's even if you cant drive worth a ****.

some guys on here run high 12's with slicks, upper and lower rear control arms, gears, and some induction work.

heads, cam & intake, drag radials, suspension and some juice should put you damn close to the 11's, or real low 12's.

Find a notch back. I would start with a new stroker block. 331 or 347 with some AL heads which will eat up most of your 5k. A good engine will be a good foundation for the rest of the build.

yes, I was either thinking buying a clean notch back for 3-4k, or buyiing just the body for less than 1k, and spending the rest on engine & drivetrain...........or I can just get a DSM with AWD?? haha, but can't beat the sound of a cammed V8....

Yeah, the smaller modifications (E-Fan, pullies, intake, exhaust), are pretty cheap and net pretty good gains - these are very easy cars to work on, and REALLY easy to spend money on, once you get the bug, so be careful.

yeah, I heard these cars take well to mods, but I also see so many options. Like a 351 windsor swap? or...edelbrock heads on the 302, etc.

Because this car will also be used for the strip, what ET would i see with basic bolt ons (intake, pullies, header, catback, cams, gears)

on the other hand, my SRT-4 did well to mods too...it ran high 12's / low 13's on street tires without any suspension work (109mph trap speed)

I still dont understand here? are you talking 5 grand total, to buy the car and to mod it.....OR are you talking 5 grand just in mods after you get the car??! Because 5 grand total wont get you into the 11's in my opinion. In my experience i have found that making OK power is easy but its the supporting mods to make good power and get it to the ground that gets expensive. These cars are fairly cheap to build but at the same time they will nickle and dime you to death if you want something with good power, suspension, drivetrain, and reliability. Lets not forget here that 11's on the stock suspension and drivetrain will not only be inconsistent at the track, but much less reliable....especially b/c you WILL need slicks or radials to get into the 11's with only 5 g's. That means upgraded diff with better axels...aswell as a decent clutch, shifter, and driveshaft possibly. You can skimp out on all those little things...but you will probly only get 10 passes on the car before something substantial breaks. Well thats what i think anyways! sounds like a fun project...good luck
