sender location for oil pressure gauge??

hey guys...should be getting my autometers in the mail today and i'm gonna try to put em in today.....where is the location of the oil pressure sender...is it in the pan, or somewhere on the block???...also i know that the gauges come with their own senders....does it come with an adaptor for our cars, or do i need to buy another one??????thx guys

I believe it's next to the oil filter.

Your best bet is to get a "T" fitting so you can run your stock gauge and your autometer gauge... I THINK it is 1/4" npt... take the new sender with you to Lowes or whatever, and find one that fits..

For oil, AM has the 1/4" adapter to screw into where you remove you stock sending unit....I believe a 15/16 or 1" open end will remove the sending unit...remove your oil filter as stated for easier access...

IF you dont want your stock gage dead, then you need make a Tee to put the stock sender back in place...it didn't like having dead gages so I did mine up..

Head to Home Depot and round up, 1/4" x 1" long nipple...a 1/4" Tee and a 90 deg street 90 and some thread sealer...remove the stock sender, screw in the 1" nipple...screw on the Tee, then the 90...See my pic and you'll get the idea..

What you need....


With the stock sender back in place...you need to add some lenght to the wire to reach..


This one you can see where the adapter in your AM kit screws into the 90 and that your gage line....


IF you have a temp gage, youll need an adapter for the AM sender to fit...it wont fit in your stock adapter...i found that out AFTER I tryed to make the connection...I ordered this thru Summit....Use thread sealer on all connections...


For power...I tapped into my parking lights on the drivers side and used the Green ground right at the battery...I also used these bullet connections all around....put these right on the 2" lenghts of wire out of the gages...this way you just make runs of wire and plug em all in right in the engine bay......if you need to remove a gage for a light or whatever, you just unplug it....works sweet..

Rio I really like that any project you do no matter how large or small you take very detail pic to help others out and to help if you get lost you have a crap load of pic to retrace your steps .

Thanks...I try to take some of anything I do or add.......It comes in handy for helping out or explaining stuff...
Worse thing I ever bought was a Digi camera...
Take this Horny looking polished Fox TB for example...I have over 400 pics in my MM acct....

sry RC....thank you all very much for the help with this install (especially RIO....ur the ****in man!).......i still havent gotten the damn gauges yet...Jeg's has been telling me that its on the truck for delivery for the last 3 days....also i'm not using the factory gauges...they are broken at the moment and i dont know if its a bad wire between the gauge and the sender and i am not goin to bother fixing it right now.....if i understand what Rio is saying, even if i take out the stock sender and put the AM one in, it wont fit in the hole??? im not really too clear on that...im sry for the questions guys and im sry that im not really understanding.....my dad is refusing to help me put in the gauges in the cold weather, and he wont pull the chevelle out into the driveway for a few hrs so i could pull my car into the garage with a heater..............ohhhhhh man ...sry for the long post....thx again rio!

RIO...i reread your post a little bit slower for a 2nd time and i now know that i can just remove the stock sender and pop in the AM sender.......also i see that you mentioned something aobut the water temp sender...i also got a water temp gauge so if you can, and if you have the pics, it would be MUCH APPRECIATED if you could lemme know how to do that one too.....thx a lot man

Cool...For the oil you really dont have a sending unit....you just screw the adapter (in with the gage.. ) then put the nylon line to it....Done deal..

Water...See the pic....As you can see its right at #5 cyl....remove the stock sending unit......you should loose nil for water here....so no biggie there...(if you do loose some, just top it off and put the sensor in at re-assy time)
Remove the stock adapter....put some thread sealer on your "new" adapter and screw it in...DONT GO HOG ASS WILD TIGHTENING IT... she could break the intake... ....thread sealer on the sensor nut, screw that into the adapter...done deal..

What made you decide on your gauge location?

Do you have something against pillar or dash pod locations?

Autometers are my next deal, so I'm checking out where to place 'em

AJ...I always liked the looks of the AM gage bezel...I wanted my gages right where I'd be looking I guess...I just added the column pod.....
The clock pod doesn't appeal to me as its to high....just personal perference...The A pillar....hmm...I'm outta space so thats the next location I guess...

I even have my FP gage on the wiper cowl...I just like stuff head-on...

thx a lot rio for the help....your car is gorgeous and hopefully mine can look sorta like yours at some point in the not too distant future also i am assuming that your gauges are mechanical because mine have wires, not rubber tubes like you mentioned...anything different here with install??...the stockers are electric...rite?

No sweat....We at SN aim to help...

Yes mine are mechanical to....I meant the oil gage has a Nylon tube that feeds from the sender to the gage...and the water will have a thermocoupler type of line with a sensor on the end that goes into the block...
The WHT/BLK wires are just to power the lightbulb....

sry rio that my last post was really incomprehensible....my bad...what i was getting at was that mine are electrical gauges...not mechanical like yours.....my question was does the sender have wires coming out of it if its electrical, because there are no capillary tubes like the mechanical gauges.....sam question goes for the oil gauge....also electrical.........
