I'm in the middle of tearing down the engine right now for a rebuild...

yesterday I unmounted the compressor, alternator, PS pump...drained all fluids, disattached almost all of the wiring (except some from the bottom.) dropped the X pipe etc.

Next up me and a buddy who has an engine hoist are yanking the engine and tranny (tranny is getting replaced)...

We attempted to lift the engine before but failed to break any of the bell housing bolts...we didn't put too much time into it because we weren't really too commited to the job...

we couldn't even break loose the drive shaft bolts (using air tools)...

Any tips for this? He proposed dropping the K member to lower the engine and tranny out as one piece but I'm not a fan of the idea...

Use lots of PB blaster or whatever you use, I let it sit over night. I eventually got it off with a torch and a hand wrench.

OK, cool...and did you have to be a contortionist to get the bolts at the top of the bell housing or no?

drop the trans cross member and place a jack under the tail shaft. that will angle the trans down enough to get to the bell housing bolts.

unless you have a lift i would not drop it from the bottom. if you do have access to a lift it is MUCH easier to drop it from the bottom
