Sequential Injection

How does eec-4 know when the #1 cylinder is going to fire, in order to fire the correct injector? I imagine it's a pip signal, but is one supposed to be different? Or is eec-4/a9l not sequential injectors?

The 5.0 Mustang is sequential injection.
The PIP shutter wheel in the distributor has #1 shutter slot cut wider than the other 7 shutter slots. That's how the computer knows which pulse marks #1 cylinder.
