Yeah, but I popped the clip/thingie off of the little tiny bracket up there at the brake pedal arm where the master cylinder push rod attaches. I'm convinced that is where it has to reconnect. I was holding a drop light up there to see and nearly burned my mustache off, popped the clip off as I recoiled and now when I'm putting things back together, I'm pretty lost. I think I looked like all 3 Stooges at once there. Only my dog was entertained though.

That is what I had to do in my 69, rip out the dash. I then found out that the PO had clipped the wires for the brake light switch off so I no longer had them. I had to get a whole new main under dash harness. Needless to say, there is no repro part for this for the 69 so I had to buy a used one. After that, I have since replaced every piece of electrical wiring in the car as I found more and more that was altered.

Well, I'll tell ya... this one continues to baffle me.

I pulled the instrument cluster out tonight and tore off all the black tape holding the wires together. I was still not able to find any wiring to run to my brake light switch mounted on the brake pedal.

I do have a few empty plugs that are not connected to anything. They do not have the proper connections to match to the switch. I figured these were just left there to be plugged into options on my car that I didn't get from the factory.

I could only possibly guess that maybe there is a wire that could adapt between the two of these?? From what I've read from previous posts, people are saying the wires go from the switch to the pack of wires just behind the ash tray. Well I'm not see it. And I don't see any evidence of clipped wires.

I don't see any type of evidence that could suggest there is any other type of device assembled to actuate my brake lights? Somebody mentioned hydraulic?

I don't know... clueless.

I guess I'll have to consider a new wiring harness in order to get these brake light switch wires back into the fold??

on 65-66 cars, the light switch is under the hood, on the MC/distribution block (activated by pressure). In 67, it became electrical on the brake pedal, activated by closing a contact switch (switch contacts the MC pushrod). Its kinda nutty, but check under the hood around the MC/dist block there to see if you see a switch (small box with a single wire coming from it). I wouldnt even suggest it for a 67, but then I wouldnt guess you couldnt find the brake wires under the dash, either. They just dangle there, usually getting in your face while you try to work on something else under the dash *lol* Sounds like your PO really humped the pooch on a previous brake 'modification.'

Regardless, you have to have brake lights. IF you cant find it, youll have to install a switch one way or another to get functioning lights, if they arent working now.

Hey man... no problem. I appreciate the effort.

I took a look at someones 67 yesterday and noted the the connector and it's wire colors too.

I'm going to try and hunt them down over the weekend.

do you have a wiring diagram yet?? I have the big one lying around somewhere and a scanner if you'd like... you may just be able to rig in some kind of jumper between the turn signals and the switch, because i think they run trough it.. In my 67 i had the turnsignal switch unplugged and the brake lights stopped working. just a thought

I have a couple of wires under there that are not connected. I'm going to try and run a power wire to them to complete the circuit... thus hopefully turning my brake lights on.

Since there is nothing readily appearent (loose connector or wires) near your foot pedal switch - and you are POSITIVE you had brake lights in the past... it all points to another switch either at the master cylinder (P.O. s being what they are they could have "rigged" it to work off the Master cyl pushrod) with some sort of switch. I would think that there is some sort of "pressure switch" working off of the brake fluid either at the M.C. or In line with your brake lines. A PO could have just pulled or spliced your brake wiring from the pedal switch - ran it out into the engine compartment or under the car - and spliced in a pressure switch in the brakeline. - Did you look UNDER the car for loose, strange wiring?

Well I've never seen my car move without me in it. So I can't attest to them ever working. I can only go on what the wife tells me. So who knows??

No I did not see anything unusual when I put my Baer systems on.

Either way... I think I've got a handle on what I need to do.

I just need to get the wires back to the brake light switch.

How about using a test light on the wires you found? The pedal's right there, you could test it without having to rig anything up first.

I don't post here much, but I just replaced my brake light switch yesterday in my 66. I am not sure if the 67 switch is the same as the 66 or not, but mine was two parts. There is the switch itself which is metal and has a spring like part inside it and then there was a black plastic piece that slides down over the the 2 contacts on the switch. My brake light wires came out of the bundle of wires behind the ashtray (as previously stated) and were attached to 2 90 degree spade connectors that slid down inside the plastic piece which in turn slid over the 2 terminals on the switch. I assume it is to keep the 2 terminals from touching and shorting out???

Could it be that all you are seeing is the switch itself and not the plastic piece that holds the wires? If so maybe that plastic piece with wires attached came off and is up under the dash somewhere. Oddly enough, when I bought the new switch all I got was the switch and not the plastic piece so I assume it is considered a separate item and not part of the switch. Just an idea to look for if your switch is the same style as a 65/66. By the way, I feel your pain getting up under the dash. I sliced my arm open on the bottom of my sill plate while trying to get in just the right position. Blead like a mofo. Good luck.
