I would think that there is some sort of "pressure switch" working off of the brake fluid either at the M.C. or In line with your brake lines. A PO could have just pulled or spliced your brake wiring from the pedal switch - ran it out into the engine compartment or under the car - and spliced in a pressure switch in the brakeline. - Did you look UNDER the car for loose, strange wiring?
