Setting up Summit overflow. questions.

Should I put the fitting for the hose on the top or bottom opening of the canister? I'm thinking that the top would make it difficult for it to pull coolant back into the radiator, unless I pre-filled it and I'm not sure how much to put in (afraid it may try and fill itself up too much while running).

If I put it on the bottom, would the pressure from the radiator be enough to fill the canister against gravity?

If you put it on the top, it will only work as an overflow - no matter how much you "pre-fill" it. If you put it on the bottom, it will work as a "reservoir" and exchange coolant with heating and cooling like the factory one does.

im with Adam. i would think the thing comes with a hose and fitting so that you can make it work as a reservoir (as Adam put it) using the top fitting. it probably does not, though.

but i dont like that way, even if you can do it, cuz if you dont have a nice tight seal, it wont refill the rad as necessary.

the pressure/vac in the system overcomes gravity. no biggie. if you filled the reservior all the way and drove it, coolant would gush out. the reservoir level is dynamic (changes).

so what im trying to say is that the bottom connection is the best way to go, on all fronts, as Adam said.

Thanks. You both just solidly backed up what I was thinking. I ran into a few kinks in my plan for this thing as it won't fit vertically where I was trying to put it. I was trying to put it between the nose piece and AC condenser, but the crash sensor is in the way (would work fine without it though). May put it in the fenderwell, or some other location. I'm bound and determined to use this thing now that I have it.

Any input as to how it would work if mounted horizontally?
