A local dealer has an unclaimed GT coming in within days that I can pick up at MSRP, and I may be tempted to go look at it

It has the Shaker 1000 stereo in it. Is this really worth the extra $1,000+? If I were ordering the car myself I probably wouldn't get it, but this is a nice red, 5-speed GT that could tickle my fancy once I go look at it.

Thanks!

If you were ordering, I'd say no. But if you're getting it at MSRP at a time when everyone else is marking up the price, I would say the extra 1000 for the shaker1000 is worth it.

It's a 'free bonus' as far as I'm concerned.

A - you are atleast able to get one

B - no ridiculous mark up

C - you will have a new GT for the weekend

If I were going to order, the Skanker 1000 is definately not worth the money. If I didn't have a GT and the keys were dangling in front of me - I'm there!

It's hardly something that I would consider passing on the car for considering how difficult they are to come by. For what it's worth, I ordered my car and decided to get the shaker 1000 - sure it's pricey, but it's a not all that bad for a stock unit and I've had no problems with it at all.

Do you have one? I love it, nice clean install doen't take up very much trunk room and sounds great.

Im sure you can get some aftermarket stuff thats sounds better, but IMO makes the trunk look like RICE.

You could put that extra $1000 into PERFORMANCE mods. Wait.

Now, just give me the name and number of your dealer. j/k

I have it and it's OK. If you're getting it at very low cost, go ahead.

Trunk space it's that much of an issue for me. Personally, it has too much bass for me and I usually leave the unit off. But the extra set of speakers that the 500->1000 upgrade adds is worth it. Very good sound.

I'm not very happy with the way the HU is programmed. Search for my thread using keyword MP3 for details.

If I were to do this over again and was planning on keeping the car, I would order the car with the stock radio and replace it with Alpine gear.

No I don't have a shaker 1000. I went after market, the mm12 I have in the trunk still leaves plenty of space back there. Granted my amps are plainly visible in the trunk and not hidden away, but I'm willing to trade "clean" for functionality and sound.

I didn't want it, but I found the exact car I wanted except it had the shaker 1000... so I've got it.
If you are 18 and like heavy bass all the time it's ok. Not worth the $1200 price tag. I'm well past the need for heavy bass (and I'm not a fan of rap music) and would prefer just to have a regular nice sounding system. Plus I don't like the loss of trunk space.

I guess the good side is that you get the bass and amps and it's tucked away as neatly as possible...

I ordered my car and I just had to have everything on it including the Skipper 1000. I like the idea of factory subs in the door and trunk, etc etc etc. The Skipper 1000 is not worth the 1400 bucks I shelled out for it. If I would have known it was such a piece of crap trash I would have got whatever was standard and put my own system in. You should hear/see my Explorer's stereo.

Got in mine - works great. Worth 1000 or 1400 - for me I was just lazy and didn't want to do aftermarket. so it was worth it to me. I've done very highend setups before. As far as the Shaker 1000 sound quality here's my 2 cents - it's ok if you have never owned a high end system. If you have there is a lot to be desired then. The deck it self isnt bad the speakers (all 9 of them) suck . I might change them out when I'm done with the blower/wheels & paint project.

No the Shaker 1000 is not worth it. A royb said, you can get a far better aftermarket system for that kind of $$. The Shaker 1000 is really nothing more than a Shaker 500 with a sub woofer tacked on. The price is a ripoff as you are still getting a system with Ford's cheap made in China speakers.

On the other hand, if I wanted a 2005 Mustang real bad AND I wanted it right away AND a dealer had one sitting on their lot just the way I wanted it (color - options) AND they were selling it at MSRP AND the only thing I didn't like about it was the Shaker 1000, I'd be a fool not to buy it.

See if you can get the dealer to give you something because you don't want the Shaker 1000. The worst that could happen is he says NO and you buy it at MSRP.

I keep seeing people say the shaker is not worth it.

When I ordered my car I ordered it without the shaker 1000. When it arrived for whatever reason the shaker 1000 was in it. I think it was a dealer screw up. But I was not about to wait another 5 months to get another build done. So I went ahead and accepted it. I paid for it also. There was no discounts because of the dealer mess up.

I am glad I did. I think the shaker 1000 has outstanding sound. Sure you could go out and buy a bunch of audio equipment and get something better. But you'll probably spend more considering your time and the equipment. Not to mention the frustration of putting it in. Also consider if you yourself does not install this aftermarket equipment whos going to do it The yahoos at Best Buy or Circuit City? No thanks!

Then after you put in the aftermarket you'll never be satisfied. There is always something more you'll want or you'll never get the sound exactly the way you want. It s a money pit. Also the aftermarket may not match up niceley like the factory radio.

The factory shaker will also have a warranty for 36K miles or 3 years.

Go get the car and pay for the shaker upgrade. I bet after a couple of weeks you'll be glad you did.

I was.
