Shaker 500 replacement...

Has anyone here pulled out a shaker500 from their 05 and installed aftermarket stuff in its place?

I'm looking to install a Alpine head unit, xm direct tuner, and an ipod controller. I want reg radio, xm, and my ipod at my finger tips.

I'd prefer to replace/upgrade speakers later for time and budget concerns. Is their wiring information / a harness out there that will allow me to pull out the shaker head unit, replace it with a "mount" for the alpine head unit and assecories?

Anyone have pics or directions of an install? Anyone have advise on what kit wiring junk to buy?

You might check out Crutchfield. www.crutchfield.com. I think they have the necessary wiring kits for the different head units. I was thinking about doing this also, but am going to wait to see how the Shaker turns out. Haven't got the stang yet.

Thanks, The head unit is about $1100 without the navigation, $2000 with it. they had to take all of the measurements for the huge hole and they had to build a custom kit for it. as for installation, it was pretty simple, the hard part is making the kit to hold the head unit.

how does the TV tuner work?

the tv tuner is mounted in the upper corners of my winshield, you just click a button on the head unit and 32 channels pop on.

Do you mind me asking about your MagnaFlow exhaust? How much was it and how did you decide which brand to go with? My biggest stuggle is between the MagnaFlow and the FM American Thunder axle-back. Thoughts??

Nemix, you got the right idea getting rid of the "Skanker" stereo but your going about it backwards. The WORST part of this stereo is the speakers and the trash amplifier thats in the car. Installing a new head unit will not provide you with very much improvement. If cash is the issue then utilize the existing head unit (i know it sucks but it will do the job) then rip out the door speakers and the amplifier. By simply installing a QUALITY amp and one pair of QUALITY speakers and keeping the head unit you will hear a HUGE difference in your stereo. I highly recommend buying a set of FOCAL SEPARATES 6.5 INCH for the doors and buying a JL AUDIO AMP. I have done this on several cars, a G35 Infiniti, and S2000, and a Boxster S. Its an inexpensive way to get QUALITY sound in your car. If you replace the head unit first your going to be very disappointed since the speakers and amp provided in the "Skanker" stereo are low budget junk components.

The magnaflow was about $530 and i got the cat-back system. It sounds better than stock but not as deep as i would like, but it will have to work. I havenet heard american thunder so i cant say anything about that. Pickingan exhaust was pretty difficult, but i got tired of trying to hear different ones so i just went with magnaflow.

Why did you guys even bother ordering the Shaker 500 in the first place? Wouldn't it have been a lot easier and cheaper just to get the base stereo? I only listen to the stereo in my Volvo. In the Mopar I prefer the sound of the V8 and Flowmasters.

Shaker 500 was standard on GT Premium package... plus it was what was on the lot with no other options in November when I bought mine. I agree with ExCon: change out speakers first, then add decent amps, then change head unit for best bang-for-the-buck.
