last time a ballancer spun on my lightning it was rough at idle and would smooth out at speed. just thought I would add that.

well it is kinda shaking at high speeds but i am in the process of braking in a new transmission so I can only assume I need to be easy on it for a while. Umm the Idle is the best thing about the car I could set a nickel on it. How could I go about checking the balancer?

i'm in the middle of the same thing, as far as breaking in a new tranny. i'm still breaking in my motor as well. i've noticed my car shakes pretty good when i get above about 70mph or have the rpm's above about 5k. i'm pretty sure my u-joints, actually my driveshaft in general, is the culprit on my car. when was the last time you checked your u-joints? as far as the balancer, there's an outer ring that is attached to the center of the balancer via a layer of rubber. over time that rubber dries/rotts and the outer ring can seperate from the rest of the balancer. inspect the rubber thoroughly. also, turn your car on and let it idle and look at the balancer for any wobbling.

Beautiful car btw. I have an alum driveshaft and its fairly new but the U-joints i dont think have been touched for a while, i recently accuired the car from my stepfather who only drove it on the track every now and then. they may be very old!!! I have searched through his reciept book and found nothing about what kind of U-joints should be used. any Ideas? and thanks will check balancer tonight.

the frpp aluminum drive shaft comes with new u jionts installed. look over the new transmission instalation, did this start when the transmission was installed. break in should not be an issue!

it started when I was having problems with charging system(battery and alternator) I made a mistake and replaced the coil with one that was not jacobs elec. and then changed the transmission. I have switched the coil back and gone through the seven step idle process, and still getting shaking at high rpms. speed does not seem to matter even in first after about 2250 rpm vibration comes through the firewall and shifter.

checked the rubber around the balancer and seems to be ok for the age of the car. and as far as the wobbling, a little at idle but then it smooths out i guess it is the balancer.
