i used the vpa kit from summit, i don't think it matters if its waterproof, unless you are planning on storing the car outside or driving in a hurricane. i put the solenoid facing down up in teh corner of the door where the window regulator normally is. had to remove the regulator but it really didn't need it anyway. all it would do is allow for adjusting the window in or out. eventually i may reinstall it after modifying it but it seems to work and line up fine with out it.

top...rear...corner?
where the door closes against the latch
where the front and rear side windows come together.
where the little metal piece called the window regulator allows for adjusting the front window so that when it is rolled up it lines up with the quarter window. and doesn't pop out.

I put mine toward the hinges on the inside. I used one of the door panel clip holes to mount the bottom, and drilled one for the top. I only have about 2-3 inches between the solenoid and the latch. This runs real close to the window so the tolerances are close. Triple check before you settle on the spot...

mdjay are you using the inside levers or outside levers? there are two ways to do this. i used the linkage and levers that normaly are operated by the handle on the outside of the door. it sounds like you used the linkage and levers that operate the door from the inside.
