Has anyone had the letters on their back bumper filled in and painted (shaved)? If so how much did you pay to have it done...I have a Cobra rear bumper and was just wondering how much it would be to get the letters shaved

no no no...I think you misunderstood...I dont want the letters painted..I want to get rid of them I want my bumper not to have the letters on it just be smooth you know?

maybe some fiberglass work? Easiest would probably be bondo but I hate the thought of bondo on a car

I think the why is because he's putting a Cobra bumper on a GT and doesn't want it to say Cobra.

Flexible parts material is kindof like bondo made out of urethane and is used to fix bumper covers. All you would have to do is rough up the letters real good, fill with bumper filler and sand many times. Any body shop should be able to do that for you for not too much - that would be easy body work.

yea, or if you know what you are doing with fiberglass you could fiber glass it in. I had a dealer look around for me to see how much it would cost to eliminate that and his only response was expensive if you have an atou body place do it.

The proper way to do this according to the guy that did my bumper and by a few guys on The Corral is to use flexible bumper repair compound (epoxy). My bumper was sanded with a very coarse grit and roughed up in the area where the letters were. Then he filled the area with the bumper compound and then a layer of thin mesh was used that helps reinforce the epoxy once it dries sort of like using rebar in concrete. It was all sanded smooth and has held up very well. You can't tell that the letters were ever there.

He also told me that if you use regular body filler, the change in temperatures could actually cause the letters to "shrink" enough that they would pull away from the edges of the letters and either crack or fall all the way out if the paint cracked deep enough.

I did it because I liked the smooth look of the '03 Cobra bumper and the black relief around the exhaust outlets. It gives me a unique look with OEM fit/finish. Also, I was never impressed with the styrofoam-filled louvers/vents in the GT bumper.

I don't have a reputable shop in my area...if you can can you ask the guy how much he usually charges for that...so I can have something to compare to....or BALLpark it
