Shaving antenna on Fox Body

I was up at a Mustang's Unlimited show and saw a guy that had shaved his antenna and somehow wired it to the rear of his roof. At the rear he installed one of those small black flexable antenna's that are about 4" long. It was on an angle and looked trick. Has anyone done this or can anyone shoot my some advice about how it could be done?

I would imagine filling the old antenna hole would be hte hardest part. Installing the new antenna would just be a matter of running the cable, securing the antenna and connecting it all up.

So where would you run the wiring? I was thinking through the firewall, run it behind the passenger side pillar, and then hide it with the headliner? Does that sound right? I plan on switching my interior from the porno red to either black or gray so removing the headliner is in the near future anyways.

You can just run it under the carpet from behind the radio, up the rear side panel and out the rear window trim. As far as the original antenna, I just pulled mine and substituted a rubber plug from sears. When I paint my car this winter I plan on removing the base and filling the hole. No radio=no use for antenna.

just weld it up, its shouldnt be too hard, i have shaved everything you can think of shaving plus some on my 64

Not exactly what you were talking about but I was considering this kit from california mustang. It uses the antenna delete plate and a hidden antenna. I think it would clean up the exterior some. Just a thought.

yep, there are delete kits.

another way:
i use a little curly cue antenna from the parts store - 5 bucks. it is cool, as i dont have to listen to CB radio transmissions now, like i did with the stock 10 foot-long antenna.

It is really difficult to cover the hole if you have never done it, but if you have a few tips then its a breeze. So here is the best way I have ever seen.

Basically the hardest part would be cutting and shaping the replacement piece.
FIRST You need a good body hammer and dolly for shaping the "plug" piece. Simply try to get the contour of the plug to be the same as the hood line. With such a small replacement piece this does not matter to terribly much. Second After you shape and cut your "plug" to fit the hole with hold it in the hole with a long magnet (having the magnet reach from one side of the plug to the other) and put a light tack weld on all four sides. Then make tack weld after tack weld in a clockwise (or counterclockwise) direction each time spacing them way apart. Basically if you kept putting welds side-by-side one after the next the metal in that area would get to hot and warp. So just keep putting one weld 1-2 inches away from the last until you fill in all the gap btwn the replacement piece and the cars body. Finally Grind down smooth all of the welds, you can do this with an angle grinder. If all the metal is smooth then sand the whole area down with sand paper and then you may prime and paint.

This is just a basic outline of what it would take to put a metal plug in where the antenna use to be. If you ever get a chance the best instruction on how to do this was in and episode of "Trucks" on spiketv, their website is truckstv.com

When I decided to eliminate my old antenna View attachment 521412

I went with a Autoloc Hidden antennaView attachment 521414 which works about just as well as the old factory externally mounted antenna.

I just went with the '93 Cobra delete plate, $10 and about 20 seconds. Good enough for me. The antenna is still there, ziptied up in the fender. Still works too, although I wouldn't care if it didn't, radio sucks. Never listen to it, ever. Got a couple hundred CDs in back to take care of that. Gotta get an ipod...

Go with the antenna delete plate at first, then have the hole welded when you have body work done.

I've heard of folks having good luck just securing the stock antenna inside the fender, but you could get a hidden antenna like ALMOST STOCK's. I think they also make thin wire, adhesive-backed antennas you can put at the top of your windshield or rear window (if you don't have a rear defroster).

Those Euro-style, roof-mounted antennas look like cr@p on cars that have them from the factory. I think they would look like @ss on a Fox body, IMHO.
