Halon is hard to find, actually I thought it was outlawed???
Not hard to find, but a bit expensive. Mine cost me $85. Halon was not outlawed for usage, just production. They made quite a lot of it right before the ban went into effect, so it's still easy to get ahold of.

I figured a wal mart special fire extinguisher is better than nothing, so that is what I have in mine.
A powder fire extguisher will certainly put out a fire, but the downside is that the powder tends to bond permanently to any hot part it touches. Which means that even if it's a small part that catches fire, you may end up replacing a lot of stuff anyway. At least you get to keep the car.

Statistically, alternators are the most common cause of underhood fires.

first off thanks for all the responses, heres a little update; ford says they dont make the fuse box's anymore and they cant find one on their "national parts locator" so they told me to call my insurance company and have them total the car. so im currently in that process of waiting for my insurance company to sort out their thing. i plan to buy the car back after and fix her with junkyard/used parts. so will a v6 fuse box work in my GT? if not anyone have/know where i can find a fuse box for sale??

yellow5.0cobra - how much do you want for your v6 fuse box??

thanks guys...

A fire extinguisher is always a good thing to have in a car. Just make sure you get a good Halon one. The dry powder in standard fire extinguishers can cause huge problems with your under-hood components, and they aren't always good at putting out electrical fires. Just my $.02...

Yeah and the Powder !!!t makes a really big mess in the engine compartment it will never come out too

I dont think the insurance company is going to pay for it. I may be wrong but i doubt it. Insurance companies cover accidental things like a tree falling on your car or a sudden flood- not mechanical failures. I would think that the insurance company would look at why it happened. My boat motor seized on me last month. i got it covered under my insurance but only by telling them that i ran through some fishing line (thats the accident) and the fishing line tore up my seals and all of my oil leaked out. You see whaere i'm going? If my motor seized because my oil pump failed-it would not be covered. I hope the best for you though.

IMYOURZERO.... Is that an Autozone alternator on your car? I work there and that tag on the side looks like a Duralast alternator's tag....just curious, since Autozone parts for the most part are crap IMO.

Nope, I'm almost positive I bought it from Advance Auto. It's probably a remanufactured one but (knock on wood) this one has been working fine for over a year and a half now. I probably could have bought a better one for less money, but at the time I just wanted the car back on the road ASAP and Advance Auto was just down the road.
