As par of taking apart the engine bay to get ready for the new engine, I removed the "pony" and the surrounding chrome part of the grill, and realized that I like the look of the front end allot better with out the cross. the only thing is that the grill mouldings dont meet in the middle, as thats where the old grills base used to mount with the front bumper. Is there a piece to cover this? How did the shelbys do it? Thanks

will this work?

1966 didn't have the cross.

I know this is a pretty crummy picture because it doesn't show much of the center piece at all, but here is my 'Shelby grill'. The center piece is from a '66 grill molding and then there's just a fender emblem for the left side, not sure if you were planning on adding that or not. Maybe I'll snap a better shot of it tommorow, if you need it.

Thats the look im going for, but probably with out the pony emblem. I need to pick up that center piece. My moulding is bright chrome around the outside, with like a brushed metal color on the inside strip..I like the look of yours allot.

I ran the 66 center piece for years on my 65 clone, and hardly anyone ever noticed the difference. There was a seller on Ebay a couple years ago that had a 65-style center, which I bought for ~$25 and swapped on. Nobody ever noticed the difference.. ;)

There's not a lot that would notice eh. I made a piece from a bit of aluminum scrap I had laying around. Cost nothing and nobody has ever noticed if it's right or not.
