I have a 02 Mustang GT with 77k on the clock and Im about to drop $5k into it to freshen it up...but then after talking with friends & family they all suggest getting a new Mustang instead for the warranty, plus its something new.

So I went down to my local dealership and they have a 07 Shelby GT 350 black with a light grey leather interior & 250 miles on it. They are asking $32k.

Looking at the new 08 Mustang GT's I noticed they are asking $29k for a premium and thats pretty much a stock premium (stock premium lol).

Now doing some reading here people dont seem to like them much due to the parts installed and the price charged.

Also my dealership said the shelby comes with a lifetime powertrain warranty as long as I have it serviced there.

Im kinda on the fence with this one. Or I could just pick up a used GT for like $22k.

What do you guys think?

Ford is crying for money and summer is over, you can haggle the 29K GT for just under 28K.Sticker on mine way 29.9K I got it for 27.9K. If he doesn't haggle then go to a dealer that actually wants to sell cars. The Shelby GT is not worth it if you plan to modify...if you're going to leave it totally stock and MINT condition then its worth it because they're going to be worth a fortune when Carroll is gone.....worth more then the GT-500 because the GT's are built by Shelby the 500's are built by Ford

I paid under $29K for my loaded premium LAST august when they were still very new to the lots and there were no incentives. You can easily haggle it lower now.

You'll hear many strong opinions on here about the SGT. If you want the Shelby name, then get the Shelby. Otherwise, if you want to spend that money, but a regular GT and use the price difference to mod it to your liking, and you'll end up with significantly more power.

I would say go for a used 05+ GT, they are going for 15-22k around here. Then spend the extra money on a CAI + tune, gears and exahust.

I would got with a used GT if you ca find one thats a great deal. I bought my 06 a year ago with only 1700 miles on it for 23k which is fully loaded with the polished bullitt wheels also. If you can't find an appealing used GT then I would just get a fresh GT to your liking and put 3-4k that you would spend on the shelby right into the car.....and of coarse there is also the option of just keeping your 02 and throwing some cash into that to satisfy your crave for something new and not worry about a new payment and larger insurance premium.

If you are going to keep the car a long time and can keep it stock, I would go with the Shelby. I think it will hold its value better over the long haul and will have collector interest eventually.

It's your money, buy what you want, not what we want for you. If you can get a shelby GT for 32,000 and you like it, then buy it. I'ld sure rather have a shelby than my plain old GT, there weren't any around for 32 when I bought mine. My GT stickered for 32, but with rebates and X plan I got it for around 26. I dout if anyone in thier right mind would turn down a shelby at the right price unless thier not wrapped too tight.

I wasn't aware that a shelby GT could be bought for that price. If it said GT 350 on the side then it sounds like a dealer modified GT.

If not getting the '10 model, it should drastically drop the price on leftover '09s to make room

On a side note: I like the Steeda cowl hood, but after seeing the possible '10 Ford hood on the main page, I could easily take one of those

You are correct//I had one and only one at my dealership(It was very hard to sell it for invoice which was about $38,000)...

My dealership had only one shelby GT, vista blue with silver stripes. It lasted only 2 days and it was gone. They didn't have any trouble selling it. At least the shelby GT 500 they had lasted a week. It's a small town dealership, not a mega dealer, that must make a difference.
