I have a 2003 Mustang GT. It is an automatic. I have heard from a lot of my friends that I should get a shift kit? What exactly is a shift kit and where can I get one. I know that the diablo programmers are suppost help but do they. I am planning on supercharging eventually and need something that will make my trans keep up...any suggestions? thanks

:stupid:

J-mod shift kit, transmission cooler, and 4.10 or 4.30 gears if staying n/a. If getting a power adder in the future, go with 3.73's. I run 4.30's in my car, and I love them. The SCT and Diabalo Predator hand held tuners should let you adjust shift firmness, shift points, speedo calibrations, and many other things with the push of a few buttons.

so is it safe to say that "j-mod=tune kit"?

im debating. guy that installed my gears said a predator would be perfect, that i didnt need to install a shift kit cuz the predator would do it fine

The programmer combined with the J-Mod is your best bet. The J-Mod allows the shift firmness to be present even at part-time shifts. After doing the J-Mod to my 2000GT, the difference was night and day. I now have quick part time shifts everywhere I drive. THe hard shifts occur when you nail the gas. With sticky 275's on the rear and upper and lower control arms, I can bark the tires HARD between 1st and second. I can even get a 3rd gear scratch with the car now. With anything relating to a shift kit, only do the J-Mod.

Do both.

An actual shift kit will modify the hardware inside the valve body. A tuner only modifies the electronic portion, telling it to firm/soften your shifts.

True shift kits (the PITA ones,) actually extend the life of your transmission by modifying the servo's and crap. Less slipage (the pause you feel between shifts normally to feel more comfortable) = less wear.

Necessary mods to your auto trans:

1. Torque convertor (I got a locking PI 2800 stall) ....Best mod IMO next to gears
2. Gears (4.10's minimum for N/A)
3. Shift kit (J-mod is the best IMO)
4. Trans cooler (B&M cooler, 28,000 GVW)

Don't waste your time with the B&M or Transgo...I heard a few horror stories about them.
