shift knob

I have the UPR billet shift knob on my steeda tri ax and it gets really hot from the transmission with this 90 degree weather ive been having recently. Is there anything that I can do to help keep it a little cooler? Does anyone else have this problem?

Go with a shift knob thats not metal. Thats about all you can do.

Oh you poor poor person 90 degree weather I wish it would get down to 90 degrees here. Our low today is 82 high is 115. My old shift knob was a crappy piece of **** and would heat up like a bitch and make my hand all dirty after I got done driving it. I just got a stock GT knob and it is much better now.

I wouldnt want a metal shift knob for that reason. How about having a metal steering wheel burning your hands every time you touch it too. I would also worry about my hand slipping off on those fast shifts.

why not get the heat insulated steeda knob? that is what i'm looking at getting.

You could probably coat the inside of the shifter with a thermal insulater of some kind to reduce heat transfer.. but I really cant imagine the trans itself be whats getting it so hot.

Try throwing a sock or something over it while its parked and see if that helps.

Get something that has a coating on it. The rea aluminum ones get hot as hell, mine lasted a week on the car. The tranny will keep the shift knob hot, as after the car has been sitting in the shade, the shift handle will still be warm.

I had the same problem with a UPR Bullitt Style Knob. When I put on my tri-ax shifter I ordered the Steeda insulated knob and its been much better. It still gets hot but the rubber on the outside of the knob helps. Last year I put a beenie hat over the UPR Knob when it got really hot and just shifted with that on and that helped. I think their is gonna be a little bit of heat in the knob no matter what, but the Steeda one is much better. Just My 2cents.

So true - it's that simple.

I just got a stock GT knob and it is much better now.

That's where we are at now too, back to the OEM knobs - We have a Steeda knob (too hot), and a FatKnob (looks awesome, but not so easy to shift) sitting in a box.

Yeah its a pain sometimes. I like the metal ones so much though I just deal with it. With the air one it only lasts about five minutes.
