Shifter Ball Size/Thread?

Hi All,
I made a shifter stick for my T5 from a 3-speed shifter stick (unknown year) and went to transfer the ball from my original 68 stick and it is too small! The Mustang parts houses show them as either 7/16" or 1/2" but 1/2" is too big and 7/16" is too small. Can anyone help me here?

Probably the easiest thing to do is take the shifter to your local "Ace Hardware" and use their thread tool to find the size...
At the stores here, these are hanging on a post/rack in the fastener section.

I know my 65 3 speed is 1/2-20 Fine thread, I know this because I found a nice walnut shifter knob off of a VW (Free of course) and it was of course metric so I had to redrill it and Tap it 1/2-20 Fine Thread to make it Fit
