Sounds like at some point you had thrown the shifter too far forward. You may have damaged somethinb but I doubt it. Do you still have the stock shifter or do you have a Tri-Ax? If you have the stock shifter, ditch that POS and get a real one. If you have a Tri-Ax and managed to do that, then you have more problems than that.

not sure if this is any help but did the spot bolt come out? I am not sure if it had fallen out if you would have that issue though, just an idea.

what year car? if it has the 3650 there is no way that can happen unles the tranny its self broke. the tremec has internal bumpstops and eliminate all chance of this.

if you are the earlier T45 then it is possible to overthrow it.... however, you mentioned a tri ax handle... so i assume you have the whole shifter. that being the case the shifter has stop bolts that keep it from going too far. when i had the triax there was a solid 2 inches from the handle to the dash... and now that i have my comfort pro handle its just nowhere near.

as stated earlier, you do have the handle setup so that it is closer to you, correct? and at the lower position? you may want to uninstall the shifter, check out everything, then reinstall to make sure something it not blatently evident of a problem. I just dont see it as being possible, at least on a 2001.5+ with a triax...

IF you are using an aftermarket shifter (not just the handle), then I second the motion to check the bump stop screws on the shifter assembly. You should be able to see these by removeing the plastice console and the rubber boot/plate.

But, if you do not have an aftermarket shifter, by all means, get one!
You'll love the feel! I can't speak for any other brands, but I think the Steeda Tri-Ax is great. IMHO.

Good luck.
