I don't think it could be the synchros. Synchros make it to where the gears don't grind when shifting. I would say the blockers or shift forks. No idea on price, yet, as my tranny is being worked on right now for getting stuck in 3rd gear. I took mine out to took it to the shop, cheaper. It only took 1 hour to remove and the shop wanted to charge 3 hours to do.

It is my opinion that it isn't the synchros...i think the post above me hit it pretty well....I talked my mechanic down to $500 for parts and labor on my tranny rebuild (t5 in my 5.0) Find the hole in the wall tranny shops...they kill for bussiness and if you make them a decent offer they should take you up on it....good luck.

same thing happened on my 99 Gt after a Pro-50 install, I kept trying the clutch and backed up some and it free'd itself. I do know how you feel though, initially I was like oohh noo! For what its worth it never did it again after that day.

Have you tried going to the limiter in Reverse? I know it's dangerous, but it should be much easier to pull out of gear up there where it will want to kick out of gear anyway... (And don't go doing this on the street or something--find someplace relatively safe and be really, really, really carefull...)

When mine was stuck in 3rd gear, it was the dogs which either broke or came off.

The same thing happened to me about 4 months ago. Mine got stuck in 1st gear though. I am just starting to fix it now. I pulled the tranny myself and brought it to Aamco Transmissions and they want over 1000 to fix it. I found a used t45 with 12000 miles for 500 so I bought that instead. While I have everything out I am also replacing the clutch with a centerforce dual friction. I plan on getting the t56 later on but for now it will due.

I had this problem frequently in my car when I had the T45 still. It was really irritating and didn't go away until I got a rebuild (THX Ford warranty!).

I was always able to work mine out of reverse with some work. I'm trying to remember exact what I did. It was something along these lines:

1). Always keep pushing forward on the shifter trying to get it out of gear
2). With the car running slowly get minimal clutch engagement
3). With clutch in try having someone push the car forward (as your doing steps 1 & 2).
4). Try to get on an incline going backwards while trying 1&2 and rolling a little.

Try everything you can, maybe you'll find the teknique

Cool! Mine would do it often so you might need to learn the "trick". How much did the mechanic charge you? Hopefully only like $25.
