Shifting Question

Starting off in second can be hard on your clutch due to the higher revs and greater amout of clutch slipping needed. As far as skipping gears, I can't think of any reason it'd hurt anything. I assume you have a reason, though I can't imagine. Some gears may be easier to skip than others. In my Camaro (w/ muncie M-21 CR) I always skip 2nd if I'm not hauling ass, in my girlfriends honda I skip 3rd gear on occasion when driving leisurely.

ive done it. ive also missed second gear once. i have no clue wtf happened, total brain fart i guess. and when i was very first learning how to drive a stick, went from 2nd to 5th on a couple occasions.....man im retarded...o well

I ususally shift 1, 2, 4. It really improves my gas mileage

on occasion i start out in second (facing downhill). with the stock shifter, i would sometimes actually start in 4th.

as for the real question, i dont see that it would matter too much. T56 camaros had the skip shift mode (1 to 4th), so i dont know that it hurts much. my two cents.

with a different ring and pinion its really common for people to start in 2nd.

and higher revs aren't needed, people just choose to half the time.



i see people starting in 1st, with lots of revs all the time, buring clutches up left and right.
and the weird thing is, i see it with mustang owners more than anyone.
2k-2500 rpm starts, just looks retarded.
