sometimes when shifting 1-3 in my 86 its really stiff and take alot of effort to get it to go into gear, friend said bushing in the shifter could be warn but he doesnt really know, anybody know what it could be, or if i bought a new upgraded shifter it would fix it, like an mgw. i really wana fix it now tho if i can and upgrade later, thats why im asking, after drivin my friends the other day and saw how efforless it was to shift it made me really wanna get it fixed... well that and driving in stop n go traffic for 2 hours yesterday, also my cluctch is really hard to push down too if that might help troubleshoot it

Well its easy to fix and it can be expensive to buy a FORD cable depending on where you get it. I do not have the extra money to get a FORD cable so I will try a aftermarket one fromt he local parts store. You have to remove the cable from the inside at the clutch pedal and outside at the clutch fork then unbolt it from the chassis and reverse then your done.

my car has a new clutch in it from what i was told wen i bought it 3 months ago, but its my first stick so i dont know alot about how all this goes or what the stiff shifts are from

Even with a new clutch, if the clutch quadrant is bad, the transmission will be hard to shift. Replace the self adjusting quadrant with a manual adjusting type.
