My car seems to get harder to get into gear the longer I drive it. In other words, I can take off and probably drive 20 miles or so and it shifts fine. After that it seems as it gets harder to get it to go thru the gears. Could it be maybe cause the clutch is out of adjustment, I imagine it still has the original quadrant and cable and such, I'm planning on replacing that, or does it sound like a transmission problem? THanks for input.

my car was doing this, I found that the rubber boot around the shifter is worn and it lets road grime get it the shifter and the grime lets the shifter get hard to move in and out of gears, I Used wd40 to spray down into the shifter ball area and wipe it out. Clean it really good and then grease the ball. This solved my problem. hope it helps

where is your point of engagment on the clutch pedal? if you have freeplay you cant dial out, swap in a new quadrant (aftermarket, not stock).
if it is harder to get into the actual gear as it warms, i would do some quick stuff. if you dont know what type of gear oil is in there or for how long, swap it for a nice synthetic ATF (i run Redline D4).

go from there. other things will be more involved. good luck.

I tell you if cleaning dont work good then you need a new quadrant, HD cable and a new shifter. That combo works wonders for mine. From a cranky shifting pita to a very smooth and clean shifting pleasure. Makes you wonder why Ford wouldn't put in a few more bucks and make the T5 a fun shifting car. Does anyone know if the new ones have upgraded shifter and a better quadrant??

If it were a linkage problem it probably wouldn't take 20 minutes too show itself. They typically work like a truck cold and get smoother and easier as the parts warm up. Sounds to me like it's well past time for a tranny flush and fluid change, it's nice and thick cold but as it warms up it just doesn't have viscosity working for it anymore; it's starting to break down and won't keep things lubricated when it's hot and thins out. On that note, if you don't yet have a good shifter and linkage kit, you may as well do it while you're in there.

It could very well be the tranny fluid. It seems to get notchy and every once in a while it'll grind a bit when I shift. I imagine that hasn't been changed by the previous owner. Thanks.
