Who makes the best shocks for the money. I have a 96 stock mustang GT with stock springs, my shocks have worn out and was wanting input on who you guys thought made the best for the money?

Bilsteins seems to be the most popular around here.

I have them...I cant compare them to anything else but stock...but they are holding up pretty good after 3 years and about 50k miles.

They're also rebuildable.

If you can wait...I'd find a decent set of used ones. I've seen a used set go for about a hundred for all four! AND you can always have them rebuilt for about 75 bucks.

Bilsteins are great, but if you're on a budget there's nothing wrong with Tokiko HP's (blue's). I have had the Tokiko HP's on my car for 6 years and it still handles quite well. I bought them brand new on e-bay in 2005 for only $200.

yea i just want something that is gonna hold up an be reliable, something for just street driving. After i am done with school then i can worry about performance. I saw some at autozone for 25 a piece but that seemed pretty cheap and i dont wanna buy junk.

In that case, I think you'd be really happy with the Tokiko HP's. IIRC they are the same shocks/struts used on the Mustang Bullitt.

American Muscle sells the rears for $60 each and the fronts for about $100 each. If you PM AMStanger you can get a discount code good for 6% off American Muscle and they offer free shipping. That would bring your total to just under $300 shipped. Not a bad deal at all IMO.

Just bought a full set of tokiko blues for my car, and love them. Pretty decent shock for the price.

pretty much what N8 said.... I had my Tokico HP blues on my car for about 3-4 years with no complaints.

I just replaced mine with tokico HP blues. I was impressed. They made a world of difference and the price was great from american muscle too..

gabriel guardians on mine from autozone. cheap way to get a good ride. step up to their ultra series for a little more cushion and still priced well.

my local autozone has the fronts (ultra) for $50.99 each. rears are $25.99 each. limited lifetime warranty as well.

Eibach Pro Dampers are working well for me along with Eibach Pro Kit springs.

I found the Tokico Blues to feel and drive the same way as the stockers did. I wouldn't consider it an "upgrade", but they do work just fine.

I found a set of take off struts for about 70$ total. I've had tokico struts, but one of them ended up leaking fluid and they got soft before they should have. They were nice while they lasted though. I bought the take offs because I know ford designed the struts and shocks well. My originals lasted very well and felt good, so I wanted to go back to them.

^ yeah for a daily driver that doesn't see track time, I'd recommend sticking with a stock replacement, Tokiko HP's if it's lowered, or if you want to spend some money Bilstein's

While it's possible you got a bad shock, I've never had any noise out of them, and neither have any of the people I know that have them.

I started a thread on this when I was trying to figure out what I did wrong. After I got them, and it was that noisy I searched about them, and it seems like half of everyone said they were great, and the other half of everyone said they were way noisy. I complained to summit, and long story short they sent me a new set. I just put the shocks on the back, and went down the driveway like in my movie, and it was the same. Put my stockers back on and it is nice and quiet. Needless to say I was very dissapointed. So like I said, I would not recomend them.
