Shop manual on CD

Is anyone using one of these? Is their more than one company making them?

I kinda think they would be annoying anyway. Easy to carry, but I dont usually set up my computer next to my car while I'm working on it...

I was thinking that it might be nice to just print the relevant sections for when im working in the garage that way if I trash it I could just reprint it.

I use one and do exactly as you stated, print out the need pieces.

I am in the book publishing business and we do performance how-to automotive titles. There are a few reasons that this isn't more popular.

One is the computer in the garage scenario. Also, books have been around for over 100 years in mass printed form, and CDs are new technology that many people aren't convinced will be here forever.

Also, traditional book outlets and stores don't really carry CDs, and aren't really interested in doing it.

Some of the manuals that come out on CD haven't sold as well as the book version either.

It used to be every year at SEMA 3 or 4 guys would come up to me to try and sell me this service. Doesn't happen so much anymore.

I have one for my '66, and it's great - some of the images are a bit difficult to read (probably a low res scan). Admittedly I've printed the whole thing out - took a lot of toner I can tell you, for reading when in bed, on the John...

Just upgraded the PC, so might set up the old one in the garage.

CD's will never replace books.

I agree, but after ruining countless Chilton's manuals with grease, it is nice to print out a fresh copy of a $40 book
