Hey guys, I'm planning on hitting up a local track event this Saturday night, and was wondering if I could run a shortbelt for the night, bypassing a/c and the smog? Would it be worth it to even do this, first of all? And if it's a smart thing to do, what size belt would I have to use?

It's easy to bypass the smog pump. You just need to reroute it the opposite way around the crank and water pump with a shorter belt. It was an 89.5" belt for me, but it varies from car to car. It is hard to skip the A/C compressor, and pretty much pointless. The A/C pulley generates almost no drag on the engine with the AC off.

Awesome, I'll look into doing the smog bypass permanently then. I have an offroad midpipe, and I read somewhere that the smog system works in sync with the cats? So, assuming that's the truth, if I have no cats the smog isn't working whatsoever...

Will there be any gains to the smog pump being bypassed?
