short block cleanup ?

i'm sure this will get bumped to tech, but once again... not considered a highly technical question... i just picked up a short block 302 from a '91, there's a small amount of surface rust on the cylinder walls and gasket mating surfaces, any suggestions on what i can use to clean this all up before putting the motor together?? or does it have to be machined?? any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance

If it's just light surface rust, a lint-free cloth coated in oil should be fine, if it's already been finish honed.
