I actually doubt it will make any power sooner.

The 351 (roller) is a much heavier rotating assembly than a 3.4" stroke assembly. More work has to be done to rotate the assembly, which equates to less acceleration. He would also have to factor in swap over parts, and a new hood.

Now, a stroked 351 is another story.

true 10^2" is not much displacement; but seeing a 302 splitting in half at the track made me believe the 302 is of flimzy construction.

i say get a 351 and stroke it to a 408, stronger block and you wont have to turn that much RPM to make much power. wouldnt be too hard to adapt it to fit and work well in the fox car and can be ran with EEC-IV and tuned to run well.

I am trying to keep weight down which is why i want to stay away from a 351-based setup.

I also want to do a k-member, a-arms and coil-overs as well as AL heads and a fiberglass/Cf hood in an effort to take weight off the nose and try and get as close to 50/50 balance as i can.

I'm more into taking a turn than going fast only in a straight line.

AFAIK the 351s arent much heavier than than a 302, the only difference in weight is the extra meat making the deck taller. i think the blocks are 30-40 lbs heavier, which a set of alum heads will offset, but you were going to get alum heads anyways.

honestly if its just for a corner carving car, i think a good TFS HCI will work fine, easy to work on and reliable. most people are hitting 300 RHWP with the TFS fairly often. thats plenty of power. get a tune for it to make it run like a top.

if you add a blower with that IMO you would be making so much power (425+ RWHP at least) that you could run into traction issues under acceleration.

if you need more speed dont forgot you can take weight out of the car. it sounds like you plan to remove some weight, so its not going to take as much power to get the car moving like it would on a full weight car.

The blocks are heavier, the rotating assembly is heavier, the intakes are heavier, will need a hood more than likely, distributor needed, engine mounts, etc.

Well i am more or less building a weekend cruiser rather than something that will be raced. I want decent power and to remove some weight and try to get 50/50 if i can, but at the same time i am installing sound deadener under a brand new carpet with SN95 front and rear leather seats. ALso it may see the strip once and it may be autocrossed once or twice.

I've all but pretty much decided on staying a 302-based setup. Maybe i'll just do the TFS kit now, and later down the road get a 331/347 and slap it on top of that.

sounds like a good plan, throw the TFS as is out of box on the shortblock in the car now. should make good power.

then when you stroke the engine, you can use the parts you still have, the TW heads are really good heads and can be ported to make excellent power with a 347, probably could get a better cam then also.

Engine Might have to get a Dart block but don't want to and if I do, then 363 instead of 331. Thoughts on what I've already bought so far.......
