ok, i want to put a new engine in my car as soon as possible. im either looking at a dss/chp 306 shortblock or the gt40 crate engine.
first off.. my na goal is 300 rwhp. it is daily driven, and im on a budget being 17.
if i buy the shortblock, it will be a little while before i can finish it off, then i will need to find the time to build it. its daily driven, so putting the car down 2-3 weeks to do a nice build isint really the easiest option.
if i get the crate engine, this will be the setup: gt40x heads, bbk 1 5/8 headers, o/r h-pipe, flowmasters, 1.6 rr's, edelbrock performer intake, 80mm mass air meter, 70mm tb, a/c and smog delete, and the other usual small things. 340 bhp from the engine is roughly 290 to the wheels, so im figuring that should put me a bit over 300 which is my goal.
either route will be getting a custom ground cam also. the definate easiest option for me is the crate engine. the only thing holding me back from the decision is the hyper piston's.
my eventual goal for the car is 400 rwhp with a blower. once i have the money later on ill most likely go with a kennebell or novi 1000 with low boost. 5-6 psi.
hyper pistons should work ok under lower boost and a good tune (no detonation) right? i know forged would be the ideal way to go with plans for boost, but i really dont have the money so im trying to keep it as simple as i can. a longblock will also make the install much more time friendly for me with the car being daily driven and from what i've read it is a pretty reliable engine while making good street power.
sorry for the long post. overall though, does my 300+ rwhp goal seem realistic with the setup i would have? i appreciate any input, been giving myself a headache going over all the options.
