Well its time to buy an off road mid pipe and i have to decide whether i should get long tubes or not. I don't want to loose any torque down low when going from the 1 5/8 shorties to the 1 5/8 long tubes. My current setup is: 94 cobra, frpp shorties, 6lb powerdyne supercharger, stock midd pipe, and bassani catback.

Do you guys think i should get the long tubes? Will it increase my torque down low?

Please let me know thanks.

You might lose some low end torque but I would go with the longtubes. With the boost you'll definitely need a good exhaust to help the engine exhale with ease. Plus you'll prolly want some longtubes later- might as well get em now before you NEED them.

Agreed. Mainly since you need to flow well with your blower.

Definitely good for a small amount of bolted on horses but as for torque I'm not sure where in the powerband you'd get your numbers there.

When my roomate switched from shorties to long tubes on his 93 Fox he lost no low end horsepower at all on the dyno below 2000rpm. He gained ~8-10 rwhp in the midrange with a H/C/I NA 5L

Zen, what kinda torqe did you gain? I saw a before/after graph with longtubes and there were big gains in the 2500-4000 range. It was an edelbrock headed FTI cammed car. I felt a gain in the low end going from shortys to longtubes. I had the car apart fixing a blown head gasket and dropped in (litterally ) LT's at the same time.

It was my roomates car so I don't have the dyno sheets, I just remember that the gains were very nice across the whole torque curve. makes me wonder why I ever went with shorties.

Did your roomate gain any torque down low or loose some when he switched to long tubes?

I just researched this for months. Look in the last issue of 5.0 mag they did a dyno test on this on a supercharged 5.0
Gained power throughout the power band...alot if it down-low. I think you will do nothing but pick-up, espeically with the addition of a off-road pipe!
My car made 500+ on 1 5/8 shorties and a offroad h-pipe...I know those headers are restricting flow on my motor...I just bought 1 3/4 LT's and a offroad X pipe...the headers were MAC HTS..so i sent them to jet hot to get coated...should be here this week. So results to come.
On a blown car its all about exhaust.

LT's will usually give very good mid range gains that you can really feel. I don't ever remember anybody I know say they felt a loss of power down low.
