shorties to long tubes?

Well its time to buy an off road mid pipe and i have to decide whether i should get long tubes or not. I don't want to loose any torque down low when going from the 1 5/8 shorties to the 1 5/8 long tubes. My current setup is: 94 cobra, frpp shorties, 6lb powerdyne supercharger, stock midd pipe, and bassani catback.

Do you guys think i should get the long tubes? Will it increase my torque down low?

Please let me know thanks.

You might lose some low end torque but I would go with the longtubes. With the boost you'll definitely need a good exhaust to help the engine exhale with ease. Plus you'll prolly want some longtubes later- might as well get em now before you NEED them.

Zen, what kinda torqe did you gain? I saw a before/after graph with longtubes and there were big gains in the 2500-4000 range. It was an edelbrock headed FTI cammed car. I felt a gain in the low end going from shortys to longtubes. I had the car apart fixing a blown head gasket and dropped in (litterally :)) LT's at the same time.

It was my roomates car so I don't have the dyno sheets, I just remember that the gains were very nice across the whole torque curve. makes me wonder why I ever went with shorties.

I just researched this for months. Look in the last issue of 5.0 mag they did a dyno test on this on a supercharged 5.0
Gained power throughout the power band...alot if it down-low. I think you will do nothing but pick-up, espeically with the addition of a off-road pipe!
My car made 500+ on 1 5/8 shorties and a offroad h-pipe...I know those headers are restricting flow on my motor...I just bought 1 3/4 LT's and a offroad X pipe...the headers were MAC HTS..so i sent them to jet hot to get coated...should be here this week. So results to come.
On a blown car its all about exhaust.
