ok so here is the dilema...i have a 2001 mustang gt 5 spd with x pipe, flow40s, programmer, and 4.10s with tires that have about 30% tread left....my other buddy has a 2002 mustang gt with roush body kit. he has aluminum flywheel, throttle body/plenum, h pipe, side exhaust, cai, programmer (i think) and 3.08s and his tires have about 75% tread left. we went to the track and of course i got him off the launch but only by about maybe 1/2 a car due to major spinning but by the end of the 1/8th mile he had 1/2 a car on me....should i be mad or is that loss expected...does the aluminum flywheel help or what helped him pull on me...i thought my 4.10s would of helped me

what kind of tires you have? maybe he's just hooking solidly the whole way and you're spinning more than you realize. He has 3.08's? did he switch down from 3.27's? that's weird. I think that cai tb/plenum combo makes a good bit of power regardless of what some people may say because it really lets more air in and helps the motor breathe. if you got even a good cai (steeda, k&n fipk2, jlt, etc) I think you'd feel a nice difference in throttle and power. oh yeah, don't be mad...just analyze how you can beat him next time.

well those are great tires, maybe it's just getting to the point that you need a fresh set, having 4.10 gears and all. I don't think that your buddies aluminum flywheel is doing much for him if he's not forced induction. my buddy has an 02 gt with aluminum f/w and he plans on adding a blower, but says his car has no power down low because of the flywheel. you NEED a CAI!!!!!!!! You'll thank me for telling you this when u get one!

well it is an aem i've driven stangs with cai and one's w/out. there is a difference, throttle is crisper, you can hear the motor better, adds some hp and tq. if you have one w/ a metal inlet pipe it is a joke though, because it's just gonna get hot from the engine bay heat.

Don't street race. Might kill someone or get killed. Real racer goes to the track

All CAIs suck, you might get like 2rwhp out of one wether its a plastic or metal they just dont do anything on a stock-near stock car. My friends have had everything from the K&N FPIK to the JLT and none have ran better times with them or made more power on the dyno. Just because K&N says youll net 10hp dosen't mean you will.

Now if you have some serious mods like like a head and cams pkg and mybe nitrous then you might pick up 5-10rwhp.

The aluminum flywheel does make it a little harder to launch the car but once it's moving it makes a big difference. That's why he caught you so quickly. HOWEVER, if hhe actually took the 3.27's out of the ride, replaced them with 3.08's, and is still N/A.... Smack him in the head next time you see him.

Something else is wrong because there is no way possible that you could loose power anywhere in the band from having a lighter than stock aluminum flywheel unless it was crappy and didn't grip. And if it wasn't gripping you wouldn't notice the loss of power in the lower rpm's as much as the higher rpm's. The only thing that is negative performance wise is that you end up having to shift faster to keep your rpm's up.
