Used gears? I'd pass -- for $160 you get brand new ones.
I guess if you get an expert to examine them for any imperfections than maybe I'd consider used ones?Just my opinion.

plenty cheap enough , but i would only buy them if i could install it myself. no use plunking down 2 bills to install a 30 dollar set of gears that may or may not be in good condition. plus, u never know what they have been through... (thought bubble appears of guy's friend trying to go 75 mph in first gear)

Take a look at them if there is a bright shiny wear spot in the middle of every tooth they are alright. Just curious why your friend is getting rid of them did he relize that 4.10's were the better way to go?

Used gears are fine if they were installed corrently when they were new with no wear. Get 3.73s if your gonna street race and drag race. 4.10s if your gonna race only at the strip and alittle around town fun. 4.10's kill you when street racing.

Do the New 4.10's.
It's not worth buying "used" just to save a couple of bucks.
Don't do things to your car that could make you second guess yourself afterwards. I've been down that road before.
If you're gonna do it....Do it right.
(Damn, I sound like a mother or something )

since you have a 98 don't get the 4.10's, you don't have a big enough powerband to take advantage of them. 3.73's would suit you better. That's what I've heard.
