Trust me, mustangs have been a major part of my life, and people don't like the style. I don't think its so bad, but i would not want to own one either.

You are going have to add at least 60hp more to a 4.6 non PI car to keep up with a minor bolt on notch.

And most people do love notches, even people that don't know crap about cars, say things like "i like the one with the trunk".

Me personally, i wouldn't want to own anything 96-04 that had a SOHC engine in it, but that's me.
Dohc engines, yes.

Mustangs have a big part of my life, and I'm telling you more like the 94-98 than the foxes, particular they hate notches. Again there are a few people like us that can hopefully see both sides...

.............................

Anyways, some people are a little uneducated about SOHC's...but oh well, I can just watch....

Actually...you're wrong. 94-98 DOES suck and everyone DOES love notches. I've seen like....2-3 of that era that look good. They're a typical chick car, top down, Rhianna and the vengas boys playing, blonde hair blowing in the wind with goggles for sunglasses. . Even in a hardtop you see some try hard trying to bang gears and race everything he sees because its labelled a Mustang and its faster than his moms Sebring. by rigamorales

I used to have a 95gt, I beat a couple fox 5.0's with it, I beat even a 99-04 in it, it wasnt slow or pathetic either, my lx 5.0 right now is so slow its not funny my 86gt is a different story all together, but go talk to bk_cauley his 96gt will put the beatdown on lots of ls1's, and 5.0's, hell and it will put the speedo striaght down, if needbe.

5spdgt im totally with you, even though you are an owner of a fox you realize what the facts are,the other 2 guys are obviously partial.im a fan of nearly every bodystyle mustang new and old.i like mustangs period but i can agree with some of those statement said because they really arent true,i cant tell you how many ppl i have heard say thats a mustang,ew thats ugly about a notch,i like them myself but have rarely heard good on them.like i said before the price on this deal you got determine if its worth it or not.non pi cars suck for power thats for sure but its not that difficult to make it either, you just need to know about them.

I'm plenty educated on sohc engines.
$2500 short block
$600 in gaskets and bolts to reassemble it.
$3000+ for the SC,Or the same amount for ported h/c.
Just not a cost effective engine to make more than 425rwhp with.

Easier to just buy a used 03 cobra engine. Splice up the gt harness, and get a tune.

I've also been in a NA 01, that made 340 or so rwhp, nothing impressive, certainly not the same feeling as a 300rwhp hp fox.

Yeah, try 6500, and a pulley, and you got 475rwhp. And to top it off, your car is more valuable.
Note that i said "used"

I've seen it done, hell i'd put any ford dohc engine in the car before i'd spend a dime on a sohc one.

Wow, those prices aren't what I have dealt with, nor a couple friends....

Must be high where you live...

I'm not worried about the feeling...i'm worried about the trap speed...

............................................................................

You could say I'm bias, and I probably am, but I have dealt with DOHC's and know several guys with them personally. They have two more cams, and they are the holy grail:worship: (sarcasm of course). And yes there are more differences than that, I realize that. 99+ SOHC 260hp runs right with 96-98 305hp DOHC's...but yeah I'd go with the DOHC...lol.

Some love those peak numbers

I didn't use to drive a Honda

Hang around the SOHC stangs for a while, get to know them before you bash them. Sure they don't make the same power as a DOHC, but they make as much power as a h/c/i 302 with just bolt-ons and cams. NO HEADS OR INTAKE modifiying. So I guess the 302 is even doggier

sorry bud but the weight difference isnt that much, numbers are numbers if it feels like this or that it doesnt really make a diff, obviously you dont know enough about them and that is the exact reason your bashing them.a little more research than magazine knowledge.

Talk about bias, you drive a 96 mustang.
A notch weighs 250lbs+ less than a 96 up mustang, not sure why you don't think that's alot, but it is.
And a 96 mustang makes about the same rwhp.

Numbers aren't just numbers, considering we are talking about two different cars, they give the power to weight ratio in this case.
There's guys in bone stock foxes run low 14's all day, compared to high 14's low 15's in a stock 96.

96-98 sohc cars are the redheaded stepchilds of the mustang world, and they don't hold value, you know why? Nobody wants them.
Goto ebay, lookup notches and then lookup 96 mustangs, they are worth the same. Too bad the original price on the 96 was much higher.

I could deal with a 99+sohc car, at least you don't need to do a headswap to get the car even with older cars. And i like the styling better, which is not to say i didn't like the styling on 94-98, because i thought they were decent.

And god forbid you have a stock non PI automatic, in that case you should stick to racing toyota camrys and ford taurus's.

Don't take it so personal, the 96 mustang just isn't really a good starting point to do a build up on.
The car falls under the "anything can be made fast" catergory, and just because you can, doesn't mean it's a good idea.
Then again, i only get my information from magazines, so what the hell do i know.

but realize.. redheaded stepchild is the one that usually grows up and has more money and more power then all the other children, they learn the hard way, but make it. To be honest, your car is just another mustang, lord knows, theres 20000 other GT's that look exactly like yours, with similar mods, making it nothing special, what so ever. Being the redheaded stepchild gives you the ability to kick ass and get more from it, because you were the underdog..

underdog mustang wining > standard regular old modded mustang winning

It's fairly easy to make power.. 300 bucks for a topend (h/c/i) off a later model GT, good tune 500, gears free from the junkyard, shift kit 100 bucks.. the list goes on. Most of my junk I get for free, because working in a junkyard has its advantages to getting the first pick off any car. PI heads are standard on alot of later model 4.6 sohc cars..

As far as who likes em more, TONS of girls love my 98 over the silver car, they said the silver car was cool but the 98 is sexy, and its all about the women isnt it after all One last thing, a SOHC motor has how many valves? oh yes 2 per cylinder.. and your 5.0 has how many? oh yes.. TWO! you condemn a motor thats the most similar to yours. Theres a guy locally to me that makes 367 HP and 379 FT lbs of trq with an S trim at 11psi, PI intake, TB/Plenum, and exhaust. He runs 11.6's and thats with gears, shift kit, and minor suspension/chassis stuff.. it's quick, very, it's not that hard to make them fast, you just have to have the skills and knowledge to do it

You had some credibility until that statement. Now I just see your bias

My LX weighs 3160 with aluminum heads.

Friends 2000 GT weighed 3,333lbs with aftermarket chrome Cobra R's, fully loaded with Mach 460/leather.

Alot less huh? Not bad considering it has much more creature comforts, rides nicer, handles much better, faster, better gas mileage.

You said earlier you have lots of experience with the sohc

Now just magazines....

You said it, not me.

I'm doing the PI Headswap with OEM gaskets/parts for $400.

45-50rwhp for $400 and drive OEM.

Bad92GT - I understand and you understand. We have had both
