I seen a 351c for sale, its 1970 351 Cleveland with Boss 4 barrel heads & port plates. Hardened guides & seats. Screw in studs. Guide plates. Crane aluminum rockers. Comp cam. Magnum push rod tubes. Melling lifters & high volume oil pump. Holley 750 double pumper. Edelbrock torker intake with shorty headers. Aluminum SVO valve covers. New rings & bearings.
Block has been bored .030 with forged TRW pistons. Crank is .010 .010. Cam is .540 .560 300 305 gear drive. The guy says it has been driven hard, has 1000 miles but brand new bearings and rings. Would other issues should I worry about? I think bearings and rings would be the main problem I would have had but they are new. It's a hydraulic cam, anyone have any guesses on HP or what I should offer?

Thanks,
Jim

Do you say 'Boss 4 barrell heads' because the seller told you or because you looked at the casting number?

that what I was thinking...

If it has port plates, the heads have likely been ported-which would mean the heads are more than adequate for street use.

Weren't Boss 351 heads practically just regular 4V heads anyway?

oh yeah, I'd offer him a grand for the longblock, if it comes with headers, dist., carb and intake maybe $1500

Wasn't the Boss 351 a post-70 car? I thought the Boss 351 was '71. All the closed chamber heads are '70 castings.
D0AE-G, H, M, N, R aren't those all the closed chamber casting numbers (61-64 cc)?

The book I have says D1ZE-B is the Boss 351 head (64-67 cc).

If this info is correct, I would think the '70 closed chamber heads are more desireable. All the castings listed have the same valve and port sizes.

I have a set of D1ZE-GA heads and they are CC, I think 71' was the last year for the CC heads, although they did make OC heads for the cobra jet 351 in 1971? The Boss heads were 67cc because of the pop up pistons they used which made compression 11.7 to 1 i've read, Boss and regular CC heads are the same except the BOSS had screw in studs and slightly larger CC chambers. IN 1972 and 1973 all heads were OC.

IC.

Thanks for the info.

Hehe, my book says D1AE-GA is the other '71 closed chamber head casting number.. 61-64 cc. I guess it's a good one to take with a grain of salt. I've found several inaccuracies already in this book.

my guess is that motor would be between 400-435hp at the flywheel.
I just built one with the same specs

Thanks, If I get it I might throw in a wilder solid cam since it has an adjustable valve train. Do you run a hydraulic or solid?

Thanks,
Jim
