I have the opp to buy a pretty cherry 65 i-6 auto coupe. Havent got a price yet but should get a good deal on it. I want to build a v-8 4w disc 5pd car with upgraded suspension but keep the rest of the car stock save for seats and upgraded stereo. Should I try and convert this car or start with a GT? I worry that in my budget I would have to get a rough GT and I dont want to do body work. I am willing to spend 10-12K to get the car the way I want it. What do you guys think?

since you are likely going to be replacing everything anyway a cherry six banger car will do just as well as a gt in the same condition as long as you don't plan on changing the interior or exterior too much. seats and a stereo, no big deal. from what you've described about the only things that you'd likely be keeping from a stock gt would be the rear end and front spindles anyway.
