Well it been a while. But here is my question sorry if not tech. I Was at a scrap yard today and found 2 stangs that i would like to buy and restore possibly. An 89 lxvert with a 4 banger i was thinking swapping it to a 5.0, and there is an 84 fourbanger with t tops. Both of theese cars were flooded when it flooded here so i can mostlikely pick them up for about 200 apiece at most. I was thinking i would just strip the car down to nothing and redo it from the ground up. What am I getting myself into here and would it be a good idea. I was planning on pressure washing the whole car inside and out after stripped to make sure all mud and river muck is out. should i do it? Sorry log post.

Although I'm not sure I would do it - just because I don't know if I was mechanically able to re-build an entire car, if you think you are capable of it, DO IT - especially the T-Top one. You don't see a lot of T-Tops rolling around. Save it!

I would take the project on. One car is large enough of a project let alone two. If you have the space and money, i say pick them both up, decide which one you would wanna tackle, then go for it. If you find its harder then u thought, you can definatly get rid of the second one, or if you find you can pull it off, you may become addicted and want to do both cars . but i would definatly pick up one of them and try working on it. Dont say you can't do it unless you try!

Yeah the t-top would rule. The vert would too. The vert is in really nice shape for being flooded. The guy said that they will not dare crush a mustang soo i dunno. I think the vert would be sweet i could put the gt effects on it. But the 84 would be lighter and would look sic with an 85 nose on it. I have no idea i dont have room for both but if i did i would take both. I need help here.

Absolutely go for it. I have t tops and have loved them since 1981.

After just getting a 2.3 LX notch for my daughter, I like the fours, and have decided that I want to get a vert next just to have as a cruise car.

an 84 t-top, leeetttt mmmeeee at it. The hardest part would be redoing all the wiring. getr rid of all the old wiring especially if going EFI. corrosion will reak havok with computer. All the rest is just nuts, bolts, time and money. good luck

WEll i think ill go t-top. I was planning on getting rid of the wiring and maiking the interior to 87+ specs. How ever i would like to put AN 85 OR 86 Nose on the car is there a way to do this without hacking any harnesses together or anything? And since im gonna have to change the whole fuel line setup. Is there anyplace that i can get a set of fuel lines for a fuel injected 5.0 from? and one last question. Should i go mass air with the car or speed density? I have a speed density harness here or should i just go with the mass air stuff?

Whatever you decide the awesome thing about these cars is the slew of parts, aftermarket and otherwise, for them. I found an old mini-cooper that i was thinking of buying but was afraid of the low parts count so I stayed away, but these cars have parts everywhere. Good Luck.

WEll I bought the t-top car. Im picking it up tonight I'll try and post some pictures of it. IM not worried about the fuel lines. Somebody over on 4eyed pride is selling me a complete 86 wiring harness front to back. There is a company in the back of 5.0 mustang that sells complete already bent line kits. This project shouldnt take me as long as i expect. Only time will tell from here.
