Hi guys. I want to buy a Mustang in the very near future. Unfortunately, I haven't been "in the loop" lately, and I'm out of touch with Mustang information. I'd like to know the important changes between year models.

Right now, I have about $15k in cash to spend on a Mustang. This car would be my daily driver, but I would like to gradually modify it too.

I'm primarily interested either a

* Fox Body 89-93, or a
* S197 (2005-09),
* or even a 99-2004 style.

For some reason, the 94-98 Mustangs do not appeal to me.

What are the key pros and cons of each generation? What generation would be considered the best for fast, reliable street car?

I happen to agree...

Avoid the fox in my opinion. The S197 will make a great DD and can be modded how you like. The Mach 1 is a quick car stock, bolt ons is even quicker, and can be had for that kind of money.

BTW I am talking 2003-2004 Mach 1.

03-04 mach. 4v engine, 300hp stock, all the bells and wistles. you can get them cheap now. if i had that much cash thats what i would do. if you have some money left get some springs, wheels, exhaust, a shifter, and call it a day.

Foxes are getting old. They are great, I have 2, but if I had 15k, I would buy another 99. I had a 99 v6 brand new, but would buy a "new edge" gt vert or the Mach 1 /Bullitt if I could find one. They are plentiful and parts are easy to find.

Ummm ... an '03/'04 Mach 1 isn't an S197, it's still an SN95. The S197's didn't start until the redesign in '05, and Ford hasn't made a factory Mach 1 S197, yet.

That being said ... you come to 5.0 Talk and ask whether to get an S197 or a Fox? C'mon ... our default answer should be obvious.

An 03-04 Mach 1 is the only car I'd consider trading my Fox for. They're gorgeous. I'd even take one over a Termi, but that's just me.

The ONE thing I have an issue with is the colors. I don't think the blue (I know, I know) the yellow, the orange, or the white look good at all on those cars. I'd only do the Black, DSG, or red.

my 07 with just an axleback and with 3.31 gears went 13.3@104 so the mach one isn't toooo much quicker...that or if you can find a killer deal on an 03-04 cobra. I seen one local to me going for 16k with 62k miles.

if it wasn't a DD i'd say foxbody all day long.

avoid a fox for a daily unless you want to be spending a lot of that money in nickel and dime repairs

for 15k you can get an 03 cobra BRA end of story, dont waste your time with a fox. the Mach1 idea is good as well the ins is much cheaper. I personally would never have a fox as my DD there are things like ABS braking that are not on the fox that could save your life one day

Who here said an 03-04 Mach1 was an S197????

I say S197 for DD.. But the Mach is different, and not many were made in retrospect to the amount of S197 GT's are out there.. Personally I like the Mach better

Hello smart ass and welcome to "reading the entire post before commenting" class. Today, we're teaching reading comprehension.

What part of this sentence says he might be looking into something other than an S197? Which one of these choices does the Mach 1 fall into?

* Fox Body 89-93, or a
* S197 (2005-09),
* or even a 99-2004 style.

The thread headline says "Fox or S197," and y'all started talking about Mach 1's, which are neither Foxes nor S197's. Who's the one not reading here?

Should change that "supermod" to "supersmartass"

Anywho, I agree a Mach1 would be an excellent DD cause for a DD I want an auto and the Mach can be had with one. Yeah it has the cast 6 bolt crank instead of the forged 8 bolt but
You can fin 03 Cobras for close to that price but they will have high miles and prolly be a bit neglected. 15K will get you a very clean, low mile Mach1
