Should I get a Fox 5.0, or a S197? Advise me!

I havent seen a 15K Termi anywhere.

How much are the forgotten '01 Cobras going for? Its like a Mach with IRS.

go on ebay, they might not be 2,000 mile garage queens, but a well maintained driven fox 70k or 80k on the clock, and your in that range. I would not hesitate buying a cobra with higher miles, but the ins is like tripple that of a gt

I agree with the Mach, but for me, '01 Cobra all the way. You could easily find one with under 50k miles and in great condition for around $15k. My dads vert is an awesome car, it's fun to drive, comfortable, and puts out good power. Don't get me wrong I love my '91, but you couldn't even compare a Fox to a Cobra, completely different cars. If you find one pick it up, it will be money well spent.

I would be all over that! That thing is pretty unmolested. Just bolt in SFCs and a Borla cat back.
You can see he got bored with it. Hasnt been detailed in a while and the engine is pretty dirty.
All it needs other then a good cleaning is to weld in the SFCs, change the alarm to one that interfaces with the factory setup, new pedals (they are broken :( ) and a set of sprins and it would be killer! :nice:

An 01 Cobra would be cool, but they are kinda hard to find at this point (compared to Machs), and they sell for about the same. Also, the styling is kind of tame compared to the Mach, and even though the engine makes about the same output (the Mach is underrated, most private testing indicates that it makes 315-320 or more), the Mach engine is much more advanced technologically and has a broader torque curve.

:stupid:
I have driven both and a Mach just seems to pull harder then a 99/01 Cobra. The Mach has way nicer styling too, watching the engine shake through the hood is neat. Also, unless you really beef it up the 01 IRS is not that great. It can be made great but it will cost a couple grand. They have TERRIABLE wheel hop as is :notnice: They do ride nicer though :nice:
Also, there was an update on the calipers and the heads on the Mach so it is a bit more reliable and does make more power, I dont care what the factory rating is, it is quicker.

I drove a bone stock 99 once, and it felt no faster than my stock-headed Fox. I'd actually venture to say that it was slower. But I also heard that the 99s were OVERRATED and thus why no Cobras were made in 2000. Apparently the 2001 was the same car with the problems fixed so that the engine actually made the advertised 320 hp.

Moral of the story is don't buy a 99 Cobra. :nice:

ACtually it was an exhaust issue and something else, I forget
Anyway Ford did a service recall on them to fix it and they were a hair quicker then the 01s  The rear bumper is nicer on the 01 though.

Wow not much Cobra love around here. I like the Machs but personally I don't see how you could go wrong with a Cobra. Anyways, S197s are still a little too much money and me personally I wouldn't buy another Fox unless it was cheap, had extremely low miles, and was owned by a little old lady who drove it only on the weekends.

S197s are a bit pricey still if you can only spend 15,000 but you can have best of both worlds. Buy a fox for around 5,000 and spent the rest of the money (10,000) on a very nice GT 99-04. You can have two cars for the price of one! The fox makes for a nice hobby car and when you get frustrated you can just park it and drive your new edge and not worry about it breaking down on you. That's what I would do if I have an extra 10,000.

Ummm ... an '03/'04 Mach 1 isn't an S197, it's still an SN95. The S197's didn't start until the redesign in '05, and Ford hasn't made a factory Mach 1 S197, yet. :nono:

That being said ... you come to 5.0 Talk and ask whether to get an S197 or a Fox? C'mon ... our default answer should be obvious. :D

Before you start shaking fingures and acting like Mr. Smartass, READ the ACTUAL post, and not just the title.

Way to make yourself look like a fool!

I stick with my Mach 1 suggestion as the OP actually said he would be interested in a 99-04 car as well...

:rolleyes::nonono:
