Hi everyone:

I have an opportunity to buy an 84 1/2 SVO mustang. It is super clean, in California, and almost completely stock.

The vin# is 1fabp28txef129582 (if anyone would run a carfax that would be great).

Do you think this would be a good daily driver? or am I opening a can of worms?

Would you buy this car? and what do you think it is worth?

Thanks,

Matt:SNSign:

only reason i would purchase is for the rarity, but besides that nope. I heard they have a string of problems once they get old. I'm sure fixed up is a different story but i wouldnt waste my time and money personally.

As Maza said, as a collector car yes. Everyday transportation? NO.

a buddy in our local car club picked up a super clean SVO with 50k on it. He loves it. Not his DD though.

More Info

I just talked to the seller and here is the breakdown:

97,000 original miles

Torn down, painted, upgraded about 12 months ago. All interior is original leather and clean. New clutch (1,000 miles)

Needs:

A/C does not work, Heater core bad, clutch cable needs repair/replaced and the Kicker.... Salvage title!

He says the title is salvage because the original owner donated the car to a local charity and they sold it to a salvage yard, no accident... but who knows.

The seller is an estimator for an insurance company and says he is getting rid of the car because he does not have room for it any more.

I think I will pass on this one!

I need more room to start a project... and as it sits I don't think this car will ever hold any value because of the title.

Thanks for listening,

Now on to more V-8 Talk!

That ones got a nice set of Cobra wheels on it anyway....but as a daily driver they suck. The turbo lag on them is brutal and would drive you nuts in slow moving traffic.

Not to mention unless you've got feet the size of a 10-year-old girl, you're going to hate the pedal configuration. They're spaced really close together and you're always catching the accelerator and the brake at the same time when slowing down.

I personally don't like the car aside from it's nostalgia value

Yeah, salvage title unless he's giving it away <$1K, I would pass on it for resale reasons. I believe Ford cranked it up in the later SVO years and thus they are the more desired ones 85 1/2-86. They had Konis stock, intercooled turbo in the later years and seemed to get the bugs out. I had a buddy that had a merkur with the same turbo and it moved out pretty well.

Agreed. He is asking $4,000 for the car and the only real work done is cosmetic (paint and redone interior). I will continue my search for another clean fox body!

Thanks for all of your help,:SNSign:
