My e-fan died... i think... and i could prolly just "buy" another from the parts store and return the dead one (thanks to a buddy that works there!) or should i just scrap the idea and go back to a belt driven fan?

i know the benefits of both... but one has the obvious reliability, but the other gains a few more ponies.

opinions?

Having just finished my e-fan I am still sort of in the "post swap" limelight, but I would say find another e-fan. They are just better in my opinion since they only work when needed.

For a milder climate, I like the e-fan (this is from a guy who likes mech fans) idea.

For a really hot weather car, I like mech fans better (with a HD clutch and metal fan blade). For the cost of said mech. components, a Mark VIII fan can be had.

No problems yet with my ghetto-cheap parts-store brand electric fan, and I live in one of the hottest climates you can get in the country ... although, after removing the fuse yesterday to do some code checks and forgetting to put it back in, things did get a little warm on the way to work... (oops)... :)

Another vote for getting another electric fan.

I switched to a Taurus 3.8 V6 e fan a year ago, and
used the bigger of the 2 Flex A Lite variable speed
controllers on Summit.

Have not had problem 1, no relays needed, soft
starts the fan, been in some fairly warm summer
weather in stoplight traffic, works great!

Oh, I DID replace the motor, found out that
Taurus & Sable motors are slightly different,
cheapest new one, OEM brand, was $65 at
O'Reilly's.

I vote stay with the e-fan. I have the Mark VIII fan I got on ebay for like $50, then used a cheap Checker Auto bought controller and the proper Bosch relay(approximately $30, maybe less). Do a search and there is lots of write ups with wiring diagram links.

It is set at 180, and never gets hot. I live in desert conditions with temps above 100 in the summer. The Mark VIII fan is a great fit and cools great.

The Taurus or Mark VIII fans are great choices in my opinion.

Well worth it.
