should I trade??

Hey guys/gals! Im from the modular forum, but I just wanted to see your opinions about this. Alright, I may have the opportunity to trade my stang (see sig) for this 65 coupe. hopefully it will all work out, but this is kind of preliminary right now. I love the classic stangs, so I am definetly leaning towards doing a trade with this individual. My dad brought me up aroud classics and I love the look of the fastbacks and the 65-66 coupes. My Dad has a 66 Signalflare Orange 289 4 barrell convertible rightnow. Just wanted yalls opinions about this particualr car and what you thought of it. Keep in mind this will be my daily driver thanks everyone.

Sorry, forgot info on the 65:

We finished it 3-4 months ago so it hasn’t been out much. It is totally garage kept and pampered. Not hot rodded. The gentleman that we bought it from 1 1/2 years ago rebuilt the engine in 1997 and the odometer said 25,000 so it was probably 125,000 on the original car. These are the specs on the engine rebuild in ’97: Cylinder - .005 taper, Crank – perfect, Cam – good, rated block installed new cam bearings and freeze plugs, plain cast iron rings, standard Clevite mains and rod bearings, 3 piece steel timing chain set, sealed power lifter set, new Melling oil pump and shaft, Victor gasket set, heads rated and valves ground (new guides on intake valves), intake manifold, valve covers and pan rated, pistons buffed and grooves cleaned. Edelbrock Performer Series #1405 Carburetor on Edelbrock intake. Since we’ve had it all rusted panels have been professionally cut out and replaced with new metal, including floor pans. Several coats of PPG Hot Rod red and clear coat were applied and buffed out. The undercarriage undercoated, and sound deadening coating on the inside. New starter, alternator, and battery. Carburetor kit, tune up, new fuel pump, new hoses, and brake job within the past month. 15 x 7 American Racing Outlaw II wheels with P215/60R15 tires. Dallas Mustang interior, headliner, carpet and dash. New rubbers and gaskets all over. New window regulators in doors and rebuilt regulators in quarter windows. Boston acoustic speakers. This is truly a sharp little car that gets lots of attention.

Aside from those obnoxious speakers, I like the car a lot.

A couple of points:

-What did the motor come out of? From the looks of the bottom pulley it used to have some belt driven accesories on it.

-If it will be a daily driver you may want to invest in an export brace (I'm not to fond of the two piece brace strengthwise) and a monte carlo bar.

Your Dad should have good advice as well.

dont care too much for the speakers, but since it would be a daily, i wouldnt mind having them too much.

I dont care for those 2 piece braces either. the monte carlo would be one of the first things i would add (and some cams). We've already added a monte carlo bar on my dads stang. I will email him and ask about the motor.

I don't know if it's a "deal", but I'd go for the classic over a newer car anyday! Although the new Mustangs have me wanting to buy a new car for the first time.....

The 65 is a mean machine, but not sure it's a straight up swap for your GT. Don't get me wrong, I actually prefer the coupe over the fastback, but a swap for a fastback would be a no brainer with how crazy the prices are these days....the coupe, eh, they're everywhere.

Seems like a nice ride with a lot of work in it. Not much on performance mods it seems. You'll definetly get more attention in the 65 though!

As long as you don't mind wrenchin' a little more often on your daily driver, go for the 65!

I think you're leaving some $$ on the table if you do a straight trade for your GT. Are you asking for some cash out of it? Try to get some cash out so you have something for your mods.

Having said that, there are alot of classic mustangs out there but most of them are junk. If this one is really clean, and the body and paint are primo and it's already the way you like it, go for it. If you try to fix-up a lesser car you will most likely end up spending an assload of money anyway.

Every year that '00 GT will be worth a little less, and every year that '65 will be a little more rare and worth little more too. Plus there won't be 500 other cars that look just like yours in the parking lot. On the other hand everyone recognizes your car and will know when you spend all night at the Nudey bar .

i definetly wasnt planning on doing a straight trade. I need to have some money leftover to use for cams, air conditioning, and power steering if it doesnt have it already. Cant tell too well from the pics.

if you are in college or going to be and have to pay for our school and car yourself, DONT do it. I have a 67 right now, and I am looking to get away from it. It always seems to need something, and it has no goodies. No stereo, no brakes, no a/c.

It'll cost you alot more in gas..

There will also be more maintenance needed on an older vehicle. And they do tend to break more often. Tho the upside is that it's often easier to diagnose and repair the problem.

It's a tough choice. I don't know if I'd reccomend it if you plan on using this car as your daily driver.

Makes me want to go drive mine heh... I do like how it looks without the side scoops and front bumper gaurds... I might need to take mine off now.

Looks nice! Tough call on the trade, if its your only car I'm not sure I'd do it. If you can trade your car for it and some cash so you can buy a cheap beater, then that would be ideal.

It doesn't have air, need to know the 5th digit in the VIN and door tag info if you can. It's a very nice looking car, but the undercoating and sound deadening on the inside of the replaced floor pans scares me a bit. Does he have any pics of the car during the restoration? The 2 piece brace is no big deal if you get a monte carlo brace. The mirrors look to be '67-'68 mirrors, it's not going to be as comfortable as your 2000 or have the same feel as far as seat of the pants when you drive it, ride won't be as nice. You will get way more looks and thumbs up than you do now, however. I also suggest a beater for an everyday driver as opposed to driving this car all the time (at least until your '07 Cobra comes in ). You should be able to get a bit of cash (hopefully enough to get a beater) and that car in trade for yours and I agree that the '65 price is only going up whilst the '00 is only going down.
