English!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm opposed to signs even being posted in Spanish! They chose to move here, nobody made them. My family learned English when they came from Germany! Posting signs in Spanish just allows people to continue to not become part of the American culture making them second class citizens!
If people want to be Americans and be part of the American dream they should learn English!

Ha, I'm the one bleeding heart opposed to it. Being third generation Italian and fourth generation German, it wasn't long ago that my family didn't speak any English. Both sides came over poor and worked the jobs nobody else wanted. In order to make it here they had to learn English - but nobody forced it on them.

This is kinda cool cuz we're learning about the start of our country and the different people immigrating and what they went through in this country in my US History class. Interesting stuff. First A i've had throughout high school lol as sad as that sounds

What brings this question about? I think it should be English becasue it is the spoken language, but it never hurts to know both. Trust me I get paid more for being bilingual.

um, I don't think that's why mexicans would be treated as second class citizens. MANY english speaking mexicans get treated like second class citizens. also, what is in your opinion american culture?

I think you should be able to fluently speak english if your going to live here. It doesnt bug me that people speak other languages... but comon man

Yeah, most immigrants aren't coming over for the "culture". Most only want better lives for their kids. That's why my grandparents came. Besides, within 2 generations, the whole family is speaking english and their other languages. Don't feel threatened by not understanding them. Isn't english the unofficial "official" language anyways?

Very true well said. My grandparents were fom italy , the funny thing was when I grew up the only time I heard italian is when they didnt want me to know what they were saying

We have little glue holding the disparate factions of our society together. We are not united by race or a lengthy common history and/or culture. We are united by relatively common aspirations, and that is not much "glue". So, yes, we need an official language since a language gives you the framework through which you view the world. Being multilingual is great, but you better be able to speak English, well, because that is the most obvious indicator of your level of education, and it will be taken as a sign of intelligence.

I have no problem with people speaking another language... heck my english isn't even that good.

BUT, I don't believe there should be laws requiring anyone to make changes to anything just so that those not speaking/reading english can make do without learning english.

If your going to live and work here, learn the language, no other country in the world would make changes so you could hold down a job in thier country not capable of speaking thier language! Come on, freedom and equality is one thing, but this is going too far.
