side exhaust legal in nj???

whats up guys.....well heres the deal...ive seen e few side exit exhaust systems and i think they look hot, and sound amazing......so are they legal in nj when you go through emissions....i have an o/r h pipe and i swap in the stocker for emissions.....so would a stock hpipe and a custom fabbed side exit system go thru emissions.........i thought i read somewhere that u HAD to have pipes goin out teh back to pass......just the visual test...............i had this cool idea to take a set of 2.5" 18" ling slash cut tips, and turn em so they are flush with the sideskirt, and then bending some tubing to fit...ive got a pipe bender and i can weld......this would just be a weekend proj and if i like it ill keep it....also if anyones got pics of their side exit systems...lemme kno please :D

you can check out my car at http://members.cardomain.com/kretz50 and the attached gifs, sorry the jpegs were to large. I can tell you that i love my exhaust. I had Flows on before but they gave me a headache so i got the Borlas and its alot more relaxing and still loud enough at WOT. Also if you do get side exhaust a good idea is to get the Roush side skirts like i have, the two previous side i had the first were poloypro and really drooped(sp?) down and the fiber glass ones i got after broke from hitting different things, car is too low. the roush ones are polypro so they flex and go into the door jam (second pic) so they dont sag. Hope i helped.

Why would they not be emissions (sp?) compliant? It's no diferent from a regular catback pollution wise.
except for the fact that they dont exit from the back of a car....one of my friends actually cleared it up for me......the exhaust has to exit anywhere behind the door line on the car, therefore it would be legal......

Kretz5.0- im not looking to buy a kit, or get side skirts....im just going to get some 2.5" exhaust tubing, and bend it to fit so that they come rite off the h-pipe, and bend over on an angle towards the side of the car.......between that bend, and the tip of the side exit, i'll weld in a muffler on each side......this is just going to be a mess around project to practice my welding....ill do everything minus the mufflers first, and if it all fits up well, and theres room for mufflers, then ill pop em in, otherwise im only out about $20 or so, and someone else mite wanna buy it...who knows???
