If you all havent already, you need to make sure your floor plugs, trunk plugs, and trunk weather strip arent rotten or missing. Those two things made a huge difference on my '65 (and it would fume you out of the car....with tailpipes).

If you're getting fumes with tailpipes something else is up. Leaking trunk seal, exhaust leak up front, grossly rich mixture, etc.. Trust me, turndowns will make the fumes much, much worse. I did sides on mine after having turndowns and the fumes are a little better, but it's louder to the ears when the window's open under acceleration.

Dynomax "side pipe extension kit" ($50) plus a couple of clamps, and I have 2.5" side-exhaust Magnaflows.

I don't have tips yet so it's still behind the rocker panels. I'm guessing once the tips go further out my fume problem will get better.

Can't comment on the after-the-rear-wheel side exit, except that I only see it on trucks.

I've already gone through the sealing problem, everything is plugged and sealed. That dyno max kit doesn't look so bad, do you have any pictures from the side?

all of my weather striping is good, no, great. My exhaust pipes have a few leaks but I've been told that it's because it's so tight the the car that they can't reach the tops of the pipes to weld them up. So what do I do. I think they're scared to get to close to the floor pan on my car because it's perfectly spotless and they don't want to be responsible for any burn marks from the welder. I too do not want any marks, so what do I do. I thought that it might be easier for them to just do some turn outs for side exhaust pipes in front of the rear tires.
I'm lost as to how fix this problem. I don't want the car f'd up and they don't want to risk it. Maybe clamps are the way to go?

Why don't they undo the exhaust at the header joint and muffler hanger-to-rear seat location and drop the exhaust enough to do the top? I'm doing that now with mine and it drops down far enough for me.

This might sound stupid, but would a smaller diameter pipe cause more pressure resulting in pushing the exhuast farther from the car?

can you unbolt the exhaust from the header flanges and have them welded and then put the whole thing back up? I did it with my X pipe and it worked well, just dumping after the muffs at the moment, I was thinking turndowns, but maybe not now, I can dig the side pipes!!! DOH GEOSTANG beat me to it

How about traction bars will they clear those. I have been running open headers and some times when I feel like changing the sound I would add a foot of pipe to it so you guys are talking about fumes I love the smell of raw gas and then when you burn up a valve and blow a head gasket you see cool flames coming out that is all ways a show stopper. I fixed the car now and I want side pipes I was going to go with some glasspacks and a 45's to turn it out.

I'm looking for some ideas/pictures of side exhuast systems or anything besides the normal straight back duals. I thought about turn-downs, but I don't know if that would be too noisy; so the only other option I can think of is side exhuast, but I would want it to exit after the rear tire, not before (a.k.a. not like eleanor).

Hey Streetstang67, did you ever do anything with your exhaust?

Here is another way to do done by a friend:

See more photos here: http://www.dodgestang.com/toys.htm

He modified the floor pans a little to let the muffler sit in a better spot and higher off the ground.

Dodgestang, Very nice!
I love the way they recessed the mufflers into the pan, very cool. Does that create any problems inside the car?

Anyone else have some pictures of side exit exhaust?

I really like the exhaust on the unique performace GT350SR. The exhaust exist through the rocker panel just in front of the rear wheel. I'm sure its a lot of fun running those pipes.

Right now its still cut off just after the axle, I'm still trying to decide what I'll do. Most likely, I'll extend the pipes almost to the rear valance and put on turn-downs.
