Silly ? - poss to switch 89 EEC-IV to 94 EEC (V?) to control 4R70W?

Silly ? - poss to switch 89 EEC-IV to 94 EEC (V?) - or add it - to control 4R70W?

Yeah, no doubt a silly question.

I suppose the 94/95's are EEC-V's and have lots more
pins in the computer and the whole wiring scheme is
different and more complicated?

I'd sure like to find a way to control a 4R without a
~$500 aftermarket control.

I just read thru the tweecer site and see that they
work with EEC's up thru 95, and the 94/95's also
control the electronic tranny's.

Or has anyone wired in a 94/95 ecu just to control
an electronic trans?

Then a tweecer could still be used to tune both the
engine and the trans, just have to be switched from
one ecu to the other.

If anyone has any ideas along this or some other line,
feel free!

'94-'95 computers in Mustangs are EEC-IVs. They have 60 pins.

If you look in the wiring harnesses of earlier EEC-IVs, you can see that not all the pins are used. This was probably to compensate for things down the road, such as electronically controlled transmissions. I'm sure the '94-'95 auto equipped cars used more pins.

I thought the 94-95 puter used EEC-IV.

The 94-95's are wired for OBD-I and OBD-II. The 94+ V6's got OBD-II and the GT's got OBD-I, but both connectors are in all the cars.

By 96, all the cars were OBD-II and I thought that was when EEC-V was used.

The 94-95 puters do have faster processors, better self diagnostics (triple digit codes, etc) and different pin outs.

I dont know how involved it would be to do what you propose. The SN guys use things like the PIH kits to use fox processors, so this is a new one on me. I see the reasoning though.

Good luck bud and please keep the threads updated on your progress. :nice:

EDIT: oops, SD beat me. That will teach me to find food after opening a thread. :bang:

you'll need some exta wire.. but if you get the wiring diagrams from both a Fox3 and an SN95, you should be able to wire the SN95 ECC to the Fox harness... at least I would think you could... pull the wiring diagrams (best source I know is in the back of a Haynes manual, or a Ford shop manual if you can get ahold of one of those) and see how different they are.

The best solution, which isn't a good solution is the Bauman controller.

You could also use a W4H0 or U4P0 EEC to control just the tranny, but doing that you'll never get the OD light or OD cancel to work. Ford ran out of EEC pins for that in 94-95 and used a small black box to control that part and the only source of these now is junkyards. Plus I wouldn't have a clue on how to wire it up.

You could always convert your EEC to EEC V - we did that on our '95 Lightning. You'd need a donor car's harness from a vehicle that is EEC V and has a 4R70W and a distributor. Ususally Explorer's fit the bill. It's a matter getting the wiring diagrams for both vehicles and matching things up. And if you did that, you'd need to use a converter clutch solenoid from whatever year vehicle the EEC is from.

Hey, really appreciate all the input!
More than I figured, and I was kind of
surprised there might actually be a way
to do something like this.

I've got a complete diagram for my car
photocopied out of a big Chilton type
at the local library - so should be able
to find later diagrams, too.

That was a great article on LRTs sight!
I'll definitely be pursuing this!

Thanks again

PS - How does one contact that SCT software
or tuning outfit that has that code about changing
the 2-3 shift delay?
