hmm another one of these. i can't say anything from experience, but the general attitude is that it will be tons of money and time and you would be better off buying a GT.

Uh, no you would not.

i am actually getting parts now for the swap.

Need this for starters:

Engine/tranny/complete harness, computer, going to hydrobrakes verus the vaccuum that you have now, radiator, fan is pretty much all you really need.

They all plug and play!

Your tuner can fix the speedo, or you can get a cluster for the new engine, that is actually what I have done for I want to have that 150 mph speedo cluster!

All in all you can get a complete kit to do it for around 3500 and still pay v6 insurance to boot.

hmmm i wouldnt mess with all of that i would just get the 4.3 long rod stroker crate engine from supersixmotorsports that's what im saving for
dyno proven to over 550 horspower that's what im talking about i cant wait to get my hands on that

yeah like Lsredy... said it is possible. and i didn't mean to sound like a downer in my first post. I agree with yenz more though, if i were to ever upgrade the engine itself i would get a 4.2 or 4.3 stroker from either supersixmotorsports.com, rpm-mustangs.com, or moranav6racing.com (I'm not sure if the morana website is right:S)

Its not so bad at all. If you are willing to drop a lot of the stock electronics and go with a aftermarket computer like megasquirt, you will be able to tune it a lot better and cheaper then trying to get all the factory parts off a GT motor unless you find a wrecked one.
I am currently working a 5.0L turbo v8 swap in. I finally built up the entire suspension to handle it and got some wheels to boot. Hopefully ill have it tuned and running in the next year and I will post full build photos. Problem is all I got right now is an empty block and some hopes and dreams

What are you all talking about.

All you need is the underhood wiring harness and a GT computer.

Guess what, everything hooks up. The only thing that would be a little tricky and not that bad at all is getting teh fuel that comes to the engine on the Six at teh front to the rear in teh Eight.

Tuning is quite easy with a reputable tuner like www.modularpowerhouse.com and Tim Barth.

That is my 2 cents worth.

I have a parts box started and am hopefully doing the swap next summer!

I would suggest some research before you assume that.

If you wreck your V8-modded V6, the insurance company might be happy to deny your claim, citing fraud (you told them you had a V6 car, and had paid a V6 premium). Good luck convincing them (or a court) that they should pay up after you skillfully skirted their rules...

It might vary by insurance provider. If you can't find relevant language in your policy, I would get a signed statement from your agent that they are aware that your car has a different engine, but is still covered under your existing policy. Don't wait until you have an accident to research this!

They do not care what is under the hood, just what is on the VIN Plate, I have done my research, maybe you can do yours.

They can deny anythign they want to for any reason at any time. I have modded the car to the hilt and if I were in an accident, well they are not going to pay me what I have in it anyway.

My insurance company covers the price of stock parts for what's supposed to be stock on the VIN. So if I wrecked a car with an entire carbon fiber body, they would only pay to have sheet metal/fiberglass replaced, and I would have to pay the difference. I'm with State Farm for the time being, by the way.

After all that I have dumped into my car, I only expect my insurance company to do anything that involves a fender bender. I only have insurance so that I don't get a ticket for not having it anyway.

Yeah, I don't have full coverage anymore either, just to be legal and since they are called ACCIDENTS to cover the other parties loss.

hey all,

I am currently asking the same question. its time to change my 99 v6 3.8 to a new one. so since i am going to i just bought my friends 99 cobra engine only 10k miles on it. so what all i need to change on it. he told me computer few other things. i am planning to keep this car till i croke anyways. insurance coverage is only to be legal. those insurance have never covered any of my cars they are all modified. i want mine to be a sleeper. any help would be good time i have this is my baby and it needs a pick me up.

You can go by www.sorscode.com for a list of parts to get a general idea since his information is for pushrod swaps but the concept still remains the same; however, I believe there are a few other things needed for the 99+ swaps. For instance, I think you'll need to get a hydroboost brake system to clear the wider engine that is a 281. Also, I think you'll need a new k-member (not real sure). You'll also need to get your key re-programmed so that its singing the same song as the ecu you'll need to purchase.

There was a V8 swap in MM&FF awhile back where they dropped an '03 engine into a 99-04 V6. I can't recall the issue, but I'll fill you in whenever I get back home next week, unless someone beats me to it.

You may need a new bellhousing, but I'm not sure if the 281 has the same bolt pattern as a 232. It's generally advised against to drop in a V8 with a V6 drivetrain, but as long as you don't dog it, you'll be fine. Break it then replace it Junkyard trannies and rear-ends can be had for fairly cheap if you look in the right spots, though.

You do not need to swap kmembers, THEY ARE THE SAME THING!

Yes, hydroboost unit is needed.

The Cobra engine will take more effort especially in wiring department. You will have to slice intot he harness for that.
